As far as devices go I will first try and find a way to charge my Garmin at coffee shops and such without resetting the ride.

I always carry a Power monkey or Back up battery with me.With the apps running on my phone, gps tracker, my phones battery would last 10/12 hours. Once I see the battery is down to 50%, I plug it in and leave it charging.
