Just found the freaking mail. I won't be quiet about this. Could have done Jacaranda race. I came here because of the seeding possibility. I saw registration was very low key...

I would swop 100 bottles for this trip not to be a disappointment :(

I got a bottle (2 actually) and some high 5 products. Don't use High 5 products so not too excited. These bottles are worth R 250? Really don't see how. Using them for the race tomorrow, hopefully they don't leak all over my bike.

Getting up at 4 am to drive through from JHB. Only saw now that there is no timing. So why the f** k am I getting charged R 355 for the race ASG? If I had known this upfront, I would not have entered.

I can do a 104km ride through the Cradle, not get timed and don't have to pay any money. Or I can go and do one of those silly races from Stonehaven. Shorter drive, cheaper entry and no timing.

Are these manually timed results going to reflect on the ASG seeding?

Really not cool and a fail for ASG.

I got an email earlier today which says will be on ASG website tomorrow midday.

Got the same email. I would like some explanation from ASG why it was not a Racetec timed event as advertised. I would not have entered had this been made clear from the start. It was supposed to be a fast ride and I wanted the result on the Racetec website. In hindsight it was maybe a good thing that it was manually timed.

Just some comments on the race venue, to say that the toilets at the start were disgusting does not quite describe it. The abolution blocks doors did not close properly and there was a distinct lack of toilet paper. I saw a few people walk in and back out in horror. ASG, any comments? The venue after the race, probably better than most.

After the Dome to Dome, the Satellite Classic was a example of how races should be organised. This was not up to scratch.

The racing itself was great. Rode in A group, a really hard ride and loads of wind that always seemed to be head on. Some strong guys pulling the group at the end.

On the positive side, the bike marshalls were with our group all the way, moving cars out of the way and making sure that cars overtaking did so safely. So thumbs up and a thanks to the bike marshalls, great work.

I rode / ran the Discovery Duathlon in Sandton today. Now that is how races should be organised and set up. I realise that Discovery more than likely sponsored that event quite heavily but still, traffic control in the middle of Sandton, Wynberg and Morningside. The start and finish venue, in a totally different class to anything we get in cycle races.

There was another race on Saturday at Willem Prinsloo Museum, presented by the Jacaranda club.  111km and the entry fees was less than R200.  You should have rather done that one.  The pro's were also there.

Exactly. The difference was Racetec timing (supposedly). I feel done in. I will fill in the post race questionnaire for the first time. Not happy.

With hindsight you are absolutely correct.

The reason I made the choice to got to Sondela was:

  • Its a ASG event so I thought it would be well organised and there would be proper timing (Racetec). Organisation I could not really fault them on, timing a fail.
  • I wanted to support ASG as in past races they have delivered.
  • I rode this race earlier in the year and had the wrong timing chip, had a Racetec chip instead of Championship. I had a good time 2.43, so wanted to have that recorded. Hence choose this race with Racetec timing.

Lesson learnt, next year its the Jacaranda race, not as expensive and not as far to travel.

I have just filled in the post race questionnaire, same as you, not happy.

I had a good race and the bike marshals were good. But.........

The cost of a race is not only the entry fee which was high, its the cost of travel, accommodation and in some cases that come into it. I did not stay over but got up at 4am to get there on time. My overall cost for this race, say around R 1500.00. Which, as my riding buddy put it, is quite a lot for a glorified training ride. In my view, no timing = training ride.

And I still have flashbacks of those toilets.

What group did you ride in?

The Jakaranda was a cracker of a race.  Well organised, lots of wind, and hot racing.  Yeah and not too far to drive either.

My note to ASG on the survey by them. I know they monitor this thread. PLEASE RESPOND!

It is completely unacceptable to change the timing at the last moment. It is well known that many riders chose this race above Jacaranda purely because of the timing. I will make sure that I bring this up on social media every time a race of yours comes up. At least try and explain to us why it was changed. Currently it feels very much like misleading advertising .

Jacaranda race started small last year, this year they must have doubled there numbers.  The next event will be end of February just before Argus.  They used Champion chip and results where up hours after the race.
