Genesis Bikes in SA

I've started looking around at getting an adventure/cx bike and found that there is not too many options in SA at the moment (especially when looking at the steel frame kind). One of the bikes that I like a lot is Genesis Bikes Croix de Fer 10 which seems to have a very reasonable price (that's if I can take the 850GBP and convert it directly to ZAR which is just under R16k).

Question is does anyone know of anyone that imports this brand to SA or what it will cost me to maybe import a complete bike or just the frame? Note that I have not ordered anything myself from online shops that is not in SA purely because it seems there is no set rule on what you will end up paying when you receive the parts/bike (not to mention that a complete bike seems to carry some sort of import levy).

There are also some other options I'm looking at (imported frames that I can get locally like the Transition Rapture), but I suspect that these builds will probably set me back a good R20k.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Genesis make some great steel bikes and think they only sell online.

For that money look at the Ritchey frame

PM fade to black on here regarding pricing on the Transition stuff, she is the agent for them...

The CdF is a cool bike. I believe its a little heavy (in comparison to competition) so maybe do some research on that.

A-Line MTB and Outdoor will be able to get you the Transition.

If you import you're in for 14% VAT on the price plus shipping costs plus a potential struggle with customs inefficiencies... 0% duties on the frame only import, 15% duties on a full bike import.

As Monark said, I may have some options for you too. Will drop you a PM.

Edit: Just seen I have a PM from you - sorry I missed it. Will reply asap.

Thanks everyone, think I will steer clear of import for now, no way that I want to struggle with all that hassle.

Already sent pm to dirt rider to get pricing on the Transition. And waiting for Ryans Pm.

Just found out that the shipping on a complete bike using evans cycles in the uk is almost R5k! Eina! I would rather get a nice set of wheels.

The frame I offered you is only a little more than their shipping costs  ^_^ .
