Sore Quads

But a foam roller is a great investment. I think the smooth ones are the best, just make sure it's the hardest one. It's a waste of time to get a soft one.

Get a long one - they cost more but you can do more with it.

Longer and harder..... got it!

More seriously though, if harder is the way to go, why not something like a rolling pin? or just a section of pipe?

Also watching this....

Something I've noticed recently, training and riding...... 2 different animals completely.

Training is for the pro's and racing snakes - I just ride for fun, so only petting one animal at least :D but walking funny at work up the stairs is making people stare   so I need to sort this out.

Rolling pin's diameter is too small for quads, you could use a suitably sized pipe. I use a hockey ball to release my glutes. But maybe some people would prefer a bit of padding...

I've seen the "two tennis balls taped together" trick as well for those who want a bit more padding :) Might try the hockey ball as my glutes have enough padding already!

Old thread, but same topic to discuss...

I have some serious quad recovery issues at this moment (not something I only notice after a long distance on the bike like OP).

Step 1: I think I need to get a foam roller! So is all the same or which one's will you guys recommend? (There are SOOo many different ones on the market; some with bumps, some smooth, long ones etc etc)

Step 2: Do more riding during the week and not just one super long ride over the weekend

I bought one about two weeks ago from Game, it was cheap and is properly wide and nice and firm. Knurled texture on the surface but no bumps.

I love that thing, cant believe I waited so long to get one.
