Drive train Setup

Hi All,

Recently converted to the all mighty 1x10 setup and have a few questions:

Chain Length:

I used the big cog big cog (obviously only one 32t nw up front) plus 2 set up. Does this look like a good lenght (pics attached)?

Chain Alignment:

Picture of chain in big rear cog, smallest rear cog and 5th rear cog. Should I use spacers to get it closer to biggest rear cog or does that look right?

Chain tension:

What sort of tension is best? Do I need to adjust the tension on the clutch Rd as I have left it as it comes?

Noise:

A little bit of noise in the the two biggest gears and it comes whem the chain comes off the NW chainring upfront. Assume this is due to angle? Not a heavy noise but you can here the chain as it leaves the nw. Is this normal?

Wear and tear:

Notice scratches on the side of the chain and assuming because of the angle and illt being normal or am I off track?

Sorry for upside down images but cant seem to see how to rotate them.

Appreciate all input.

Thanks

First off: welcome to club 1x10!

Chain Length:
Looks fine.

Chain Alignment:
Seems alright as well, but I prefer mine to be more towards the big cog / smallest gear side. For this I used spacers (Kalbo supply them but I used normal hardware store washers - filed down to prevent interference with the 32T chainring. This means you can also use your normal 3x chainring bolts (versus the single-speed ones typically used in 1x10 setups).

Also, don't mess around with BB spacers to get the correct alignment.

Chain tension:
I don't run a clutch so can't comment!

Noise:
Mine is also a bit noisy. Due to the angled chain.

Not too much helpful input, but you seem to have everything sorted. So, uh, happy riding!!

Chain length looks perfect (same as my 2x10 when running big ring and big cog).

My other bike is a 1x8, and I'm thinking of getting a couple of washers to space the ring about 2mm inboard to get a better chain line when running the bigger cogs (this is where I use most power most of the time anyways, so I hope it will help the chain last that little bit longer). I also think this will be a bit less noisy (can hear the chain work/rub as it enters the chain-ring when I'm on the biggest cog)

The clutch on my SLX RD have been set to be very light. I found this the best compromise for easy shifting and not having the chain slap about when hitting the rough stuff. I've never had the chain come of the big ring so I'm sure your narrow/wide ring should keep it from coming off.

Input was valuable so thanks for the reply. Was mainly concerned about alignment and If needed some washers to try straighten out the chain line so will try that.

Love the look and simplicity of the 1 by 10 option.

Yes, was wondering if the noise was normal in the larger chainrings and if using spacers will help with that.

Did you have to adjust the clutch or leave it as it came? Thanks for responding.
