The Thule prorides are amazing, but being very price sensitive I will rather put the holdfast trailer rack on my trailer one day, but bear in mind the holdfast rack is a but more of a schlep than the thule racks.
JXV Posted June 16, 2015 Posted June 16, 2015 For a long trip I prefer the bikes on the trailer. Lower, less chance of hitting the bikes on overhanging stuff, more streamlined. If travelling dirt road the roof is less dusty than a trailer but remember the overhanging trees if you go in the bush anywhere. I like the new Holdfast 15mm Thru axle bike holders for a trailer. Put the front wheel inside or strap it to the bike. Profile is even lower with front wheel off and much stiffer than the Thule racks. Just remember some front hubs have pushfit ends so if you take the front wheel off....thread a long cable tie thru the hub's centre to be sure of retaining all the pieces.
V12man Posted June 17, 2015 Posted June 17, 2015 Okay, Thule just called me. They recommend the Freeride for R1,299 and say it will fit my trailer no problem. They said they are in KZN, but shipping is free and a full refund if they don't suit my purposes. The R950 vs R1,299 is not very important to me. The main thing is - which are the best? Had a look at Venter Bike rack on link provided ... looks good and sturdy ... U Brackets for up to 26" wheels ... not sure what happens for 650B or 29" ... ?
