Hill gradient

How do you work out the gradient of a hill?

 

If it is an 8% gradient hill, how steep is it?

every 100m forward, you go 8m up. thats 8%. 8 degrees is something else tho. generally in cycling we use the mathematically incorect method of %, rather than degrees

It means you will climb 8m for every 100m travelled.

...and if you want to get technical and work out the angle:

 

Angle = arctan (gradient/100)

 

So 8% = 4.6?

Cheetah, I knew the main mechanic who wrote most of the mech manuals when the Cheetah was built.  Unfortunately oom Vissie passed away a few years after that.
