If you give Oval rings a change, and adapt to them, you won't go back to round. round feels like more effort. 34T Qring pedals really effortlessly.

It works for me

34T Oval. Depending on how oval it is will give you an equivalent of +/- 32T up a climb and +/- a 36T on flat sections.

I am using a absolute black 34t oval chainring. Definitely worth it! I have much more traction and pedaling is just much less effort and climbs are easier. Oval is like more power with less effort!

It has a ovality of 11% which isnt so much, but makes a Massive difference!

And that is the main reason why an oval ring climb so much better... As your power delivery to the wheels are even out ("smoother"). You will definitely notice it on the slippery steep stuff!

How does an oval ring affect chain life?

Never seen a difference between that and normal rings regarding chain life. Wear on rings are different however. The Oval ring wears more on 2 "dual sides" than all over. Basically just before the dead spot.

1 x 10/11 only, I assume?

I ran 32T a Leo Daisy round, 1x10 and now run an Absolut black 32T NW Oval.

It has transformed my riding! As mentioned traction is improved, but in my case it decreased lactic acid buildup which helped relieve my chronic. issue of cramping.

Hi Naas,

Which brand would you recommend, the Absolute Black or Wolftooth? I'm looking at 34t but you don't have stock online in the AB. The Wolftooth says there is stock but I can't seem to chose it...

Cheers
