PE to Cape town

Sitting slip

Recommended Posts

Hi guys I am looking for a route from PE to Cape Town. Would like to stick off road and coastal.

Should be a fun way to spend my holiday. Tent it up in small towns and whimpy and kfc as far as I can go. Pack spares a tent and medical aid...

The first part is difficult to do off road and along the coast, because your only real route along the coast is the N2.

I would head inland at first to Patensie, then through the Baviaans Kloof wilderness (the Trans Baviaans route in reverse.) Then from Willowmore head to the coast over Uniondale and use roughly the Karoo to Coast route to Knysna. From there use the forest roads and passes over Karatara to George, then the back farm roads to Mossel Bay (past Botteliers Kop game reserve). From Mossel Bay go a little inland again through Herbertsdale to avoid the N2 and then aim for Still Bay along the back roads. From there you can avoid the N2 by going via Vermaaklikheid, Witsand, Malgas, Bredasdorp, Gansbaai, Hermanus, Betties Bay, Gordons Bay, From there to Cape Town is a tough question. I would go via Stellenbosch, Durbanville, Blouberg, Cape Town centre. (I know that from Gansbaai it is mostly tar, but at least it is off the major routes.)
