Why not go for a warm up ride? How far are you staying from the start, maybe you can ride there?

IanJ' date=' let's say someone did a 10km warm up. How long does one stay "warm" for? [/quote']

Not Sure, but because of my age the warming up effect is larger, so I usually go to the starter and get the exact time of the start from him and make sure that I am back from my warm up on the line 30 seconds before the start.

I tested a few friends on my ergometer and got up t0 30% difference in power at the same heart rate, cold and warmed up.

That 30% helps me stay with the youngsters in the first 10km, and then there is usually not too much of a problem to stay with them for the rest.

I find it depends on the weather, if it is a cold day you need to minimise the time you stand for as much as possible. i would say the ideal is to get to the start about 10 minutes before your start time.

Having said that though you may find yourself at the back of the bunch and end up having to chase to keep up with the front guys.

Personally I will be riding from the place we are staying (about 10km) and will plan to arrive about 20min before the start. Can always ride around near the start if time allows.

Ian it's quite rolling terrain to Louis Trichardt from where you're staying and I'm thinking maybe a bit further than 10km..  Anyway, I'll give you a lift back if you need it.  Respect dude! 175km is quite far enough for me - even if I have to start off cold!  ShockedSmile

Vraagie.. Laasjaar se middag ete by Vivo was so bietjie frustreerend met die lang rye en geen gras.  Vorige jare by die Kerk was lekker.
