Hey Frail.

Good to hear from you again!

I was actually thinking about you a couple of days ago and was wondering if you had made any progress with the hospital.

Anyway, hopefully it will all work out well for you in the near future.

Strongs!

Hello Jimmycool

Hope you're keeping well David / Frail. Hope that collarbone is healing!

Hello Rich990

I am trying to keep going, one day at a time.

I am Waiting for the Hospital date.

I have not had the Collarbone refitted, the Emergency nurse at the time put my shoulder skew.

The Op i am waiting for is related to my bladder.

Thank You

So what's the story? What happened to the boat? The extra medical things ect?

Hello Patchelicious

November

I failed my Medical, problem with my Bladder.

November/ December

I tried going to a Private hospital first thinking i could get it done quickly, the Job offer was waiting.

Mid March

But the Private Hospital gave me a wrong price quotation. R15 000 instead of R25 000.

My last item of value was my Scooter, which i overhauled myself and sold it for R4000.

I could not come up with the extra.

Mid March

I ended up buying an old Giant MTB cruiser to get around.

July

The date at the state hospital was for the end of June, but my name was not on their list.

The new date at the state hospital is for the end of September.

I cant work on the boat without getting this Op done.

I am stressing that once i have had this Op done and recovered, my application will be declined.

My present work salary is +- R2000 + tips, but i cant swop and change my work now.

Thank You

Have you ever thought about looking for a better job in RSA in the interim?

If Cape Town hubbers present you with an opportunity would you take it?

Would you ever consider studying sometihing through Unisa While waiting for you're big break?

Please don't misinterpret the tone of my post, its just something I've wondered of every time I see this thread.

Good luck, and chin up David

Meet Kleynhans the cycler

October 11, 2010 by NAKAMPE LEKWADU No Comments

 David will conquer ‘Goliath’

By SYDNEY MORWENG

David Kleynhans the cyclist is poised on taking the world by storm in the form of defying age and giving back to the elderly who are destitute, and according to him it’s all about passion without asking for nothing in return.

Heavily exhausted and sweating as a result of his cycling trip from Vaal which he left in the wee hours of the morning to the famous Birchwood Hotel, David who boldly defies the age factor gave us the rendition of who he is, where he comes from and what’s all about this initiative in a very compelling manner.

The F.R.A.I.L (Friendship; Relatives; Acceptance; Involvement and Love) initiative seeks to help the elderly both in his community –Cape Town and Boksburg by donating funds or offering service to the project.

According to David, it was started after realizing that most of the elderly were neglected and disowned by their communities as he traveled and cycled throughout the country.

“I was hurt, sad and felt bitterly out of place by their ordeal hence this initiative. Unfortunately, it does not have bounds because it affects everyone,” he noted tearfully.

Having begun cycling eight years ago, David is an accomplished cyclist who is using his talent to raise both funds and awareness for the elderly. Through his past travels, the latter has witnessed a number of impoverished communities where little or no assistance is offered to the elderly.

This revelation has struck a chord quite close to David’s heart and as a result he has opted to cycle from Cape Town to Johannesburg and back again.

The 38 year-old also disclosed that, despite not having a family of his own, he was vowed to be the beacon of hope to the youngsters who would also like to consider cycling as a living with endless opportunities and international exposure.

“My life resonates around giving back to the community and offering services to the needy in my neighbourhood. For me this fills me up, and whenever I ride past the smiling elders of my community I pray that this could be a continuous gesture.

“My cycling profession has taught me to share, smile and appreciate the little things which people tend to overlook,” says David the ‘Weird White Beard’.

In any charity event, there should be someone holding your hand and cheering you on, and the involvement of Birchwood Hotel has come in handy.

Apart from hosting International Football Village and partnering with two of South Africa’s top PSL teams in Moroka Swallows FC & Mpumalanga Black Aces FC the hotel has gone beyond the boundaries by hosting David for three nights’s accommodation and offering cash whilst in Johannesburg.

The ‘Weird White Beard’ David impressive cycling profession has seen him partake and work in Bermuda, Mediterranean, and Arabia as a bar-man and chef which also defines why the hospitality establishment got involved in sponsoring him, although Clint Cosgrave, senior manager at the hotel and avid cyclist was the one who first broke the news about the latter’s initiative and how they could offer assistance.

Ours’ is to offer aid in any form without expecting back in return, says the workaholic Deidre Jonker, Sales and Marketing Co-ordinator at Birchwood Hotel.

Deidre, who is also the brains behind the concept, outlines their involvement as a calling because the company’s policy is to help where ever possible.

“For us it’s about doing the right thing at the right time. David’s initiative will result in him becoming more popular in what he stands for, and we believe with our assistance he will reach his dream of helping the elderly out of the plight they’re enduring.

We hope this will grow and others will take leaf from the man’s gesture,” pointed out Jonker who enjoys traveling.

David will exhibit at this weeks 94.7 expo as well as part-take in the 94.7 cycle challenge

-having competed twice- alongside cycling legend & Olympic Bronze Medallist Kilpatrick in the Pink Drive’s colours in honour of breast cancer awareness.

Immediately after the race, he will depart Johannesburg and begin the second leg of his strenuous tour back to Cape Town arriving on November 25.

“For me this will be like David outsmarting Goliath,” David told Sports Focus Online.

If you feel frail and flabby, ask how David does it.

His past achievement includes:

2004 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour, 3 Tours in one Day.

2004 Cape Town to Louis Trichardt and back over two weeks.

2004 C.T. to Durban, Bloem, JHB and back to C.T.  5 Tours over 5 weeks.

Capetonian David Kleynhans is Cycling to Help the Frail

Cape Town's Aged and F.R.A.I.L to benefit from 24 hour Cape Town to Knysna marathon cycle

David Kleynhans’ bike has been busy – it’s been burning rubber on roads all along South Africa and has just recently travelled from Cape Town to Knysna and back again in just 24 hours. What for?

“I’m using my bicycle as my messenger,” says Kleynhans, “to gather support for those who nurtured me and to give back to those who gave to me.”

Kleynhans, who has a blood disorder with thrombosis in one leg and is awaiting further treatment for his condition, is cycling in support of F.R.A.I.L (Friendship, Relatives, Acceptance, Involvement, Love), an organisation that cares for the aged.

After his most recent 24 hour Cape Town to Knysna cycle - his third cycle in aid of the Cape Town charity - Kleynhans was met by Councillor Grant Pascoe, Mayoral Committee member for Social Services.

Through the 24 hour marathon cycle, Kleynhans aimed to raise awareness for this organisation and raise funds for the care of the aged.

He was barely off his bike when he started to talk of his plans for his next endeavour take part in the Golden Games in Cape Town in September, which will be supported by the City of Cape Town.

This sporting event will form part of Kleynhans’ next effort, with his journey beginning at the opening of the games and finishing at the culmination of the event three days later.

If you are a sports buff and would like to help those in your community, now is your chance to get involved with Kleynhans and F.R.A.I.L. Apart from donations, Kleynhans is looking for support to keep the momentum of these various cycle events going.

The organisation is calling for those with expertise in their fields to give of their time and knowledge to help the organisation raise awareness. They are in particular need of expertise on how to develop the organisation through online marketing and a website.

“Everyone needs to give of their expertise to make this work,” said Kleynhans, “give what you know best.”

Looking back at "FRAIL" over the next 7 Days.

Cyclist to rack up the Ks to help the elderly

17 April 2014
The aQuellé Tour Durban, one of KwaZulu-Natal's and South Africa's premier road cycling races, is a tough enough challenge for the average participant, but for David Kleynhans this year's race will be part of an epic 3 300km journey to raise funds and awareness for the elderly.
Epic journey
Kleynhans, 42, an avid road cyclist, will ride from his home in Welgemoed in Cape Town to Durban, covering the 1 600 km trip in seven days, to arrive in Durban in time to start the 105km aQuellé Tour Durban road race on Monday, 28 April.
After the event, he will set off on his return journey to his home in the Cape.
While Kleynhans is very fit, the trip is more about raising money and drawing attention to the difficulties facing the elderly through his FRAIL charity.
'My first Tour Durban'
"This will be my first aQuellé Tour Durban," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
"After I started to cycle, I saw the need to support others. Over the last 10 years I have done one or two tours a year, sometimes three tours in a year."
Kleynhans grew up in the Addo area of the Eastern Cape before moving to Cape Town as a teenager, and spent time in the care of the elderly, and was moved by their plight.
'Heartache'
"Through family I was shown the heartache that some seniors have to live with," he said. "I was shown love, and now I wish to share it with our seniors, who cared for me when I was toddler."
"I am able-bodied and able to care for myself, but who cares for those less fortunate to have any family members?" he asked.
FRAIL
Kleynhans' FRAIL (Friendship, Relatives, Acceptance, Involvement, Love) programme will benefit from his fundraising efforts, which will be driven by sponsorships and the sale of raffle tickets.
"I am asking people to sponsor me four cents per kilometre. That's R65 one way," Kleynhans explained. "Every R65 sponsorship will get an entry into the raffle."
He will also be interacting with community and local government leaders on each stage of his trip to seek support.
