Ok great, thanks all! Getting excited now!

What should I look for in Wheels?

All depends on your budget. You get so many options. Different depth, full carbon or carbon with ally braking surface. Decent hubs that have a low rolling resistance. Then you need to decide between clincher or tubby. You must also decide if you want a set of training wheels and separate racing wheels or one set for both.

Let me ask you this. If you trade in a city golf for a BMW M3 would you feel the difference? The simple answer is yes, 2 completely different bikes

But you still keep the 1600 engine in the M3.

Yes it is more aero, more comfortable, more precise but only your legs can make it go fast.

Sometimes is also nice just to own nice things even if it is not completely rational.

Hi all

Some advice please. I have been riding an entry level trek for the last few years. Alu frame with tiagra. I'm contemplating upgrading but I'm wondering if it's worth it or if I'm just overly excited to get a new gadget.

Will a carbon frame with an ultegra groupset make a noticeable difference? What else should I be considering? Say with a budget of 20k second hand.

I was in the same boat as you, also doubting whether an upgrade was worth it. I ended up building a bike up from near new parts from the hub. Spent around 16k and ended up with an amazing bike. (2011 Scott addict R3 frame, Dura Ace 7800 groupset, Mavic Kyrium Elite wheels)

I have since built up another carbon bike (2004 giant TCR frame, 2014 Tiagra groupset, Easton EA90 wheels) for around 10k which is nowhere near as fast as the Scott but I can't put my finger on whether its the frame or the groupset or the weels or a combination that make the difference.

I guess my point is, not all carbon bikes are equal, but if you get a good one, it's totally worth it, and I think 20k is enough for a good bike if you're patient

I sent you a message:

I have a brand new (unridden) 2014 Bergamont Prime LTD that I got for a piece of work I did where the guy couldn't pay me. Problem is he sent me a 50cm which is too large for my wife and too small for me.

http://www.bergamont.de/en/bikes/archive/2014/prime-ltd/

Carbon frame and fork, full Ultegra 11 speed.

Mavic Aksium wheelset

Looking for R17 000, retail is about R27 000.

Too small for me (I'm 182cm) and too large for my wife (she's 165cm), so if you're 170-175cm tall and interested, PM me.

Don't think you'll find a better deal on the Hub :)

Actuall wish I could swap the bike out for one size larger to fit me, but I got quoted a pay-in of R10 000 to have that done..
