Marnitz Nienaber Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 I am currently planning a self assisted MTB tour from Klerksdorp to Upington which will eventually extend to Alexandria. My aim is to travel the less traveled roads, mainly dirt roads and to visit the less visited sites/towns. Overnight under the 5 Million Star Hotel, sometimes in a more rigid structure and to buy food and drink along the route. The basic route so far will include some battle sites around Klerksdorp on route to DelareyvilleKraaipan near Baberspan?????North to Molopo Lodge near AskamorSouth to DanielskuilUpingtonRiemvasmaak This will be a sight seeing MTB tour, I want to see and enjoy my back yard...... Any suggestions ???
DJuice Posted August 13, 2015 Posted August 13, 2015 Marnitz I live in Upington.Hectic at work currently, if you can wait till after weekend, I can try and help with route from Upington to Riemvasmaak. We ride weekends on retaining walls and kanaal pad to Keimoes, 55km from Upington, on this route their is one track build on a farm and next to the gravel road a single track. From Keimoes you can easily ride on the Neilersdrift gravel road to Kakamas about 45km, but corrigated and suprising few little sharp climbs to neus, but this rout will take you to the back end of Kakamas. The Riemvasmaak turn off is about 4km before Kakamas. The local club, Upt Crusaders want to start a 3 day stage race, had their trail run in June. Last day they travelled from Kakamas to Kanoneiland. The route from Kakamas did not include the Neilersdrift road, but meandered through the vineyards, this route will take you to the front of Kakamas which makes it easier to go to, but with few river crossings, bridges was built but not sure it is permanent. To recap, I will like to help you with a planned route to Riemvasmaak, and it is possible to link all above roads together.It will be along day in the saddle about 150km.Dates planned?

Done some research on the battle of Ysterspruit 20km outside Klerksdorp, Tweebosch and Kraaipan near Delareyville ( Baberspan ) 50km dirtroad and then connect up with a railway service road to Delareyville. The plan is to go even further north through the old Bop to Tosca, cut across to Hotazhel, Vanzylsrus, Molopo lodge, Mier and then turn south to Upington. Go a nice route from a hubber to Riemvasmaak. Will take some time the research places of interest, before the whole route fall into the way to go. Go my nose stuck into history books at the moment........

On the route from Neilersdrift to Kakamas,their is a "Kokerboom" Quiver Tree forest.Just right from the Riemvasmaak turn off, think N10 gravel road, their is a Monument for soldiers. I think I should ride the route with my bakkie and send you the GPX files. Regards

I have a few Spanish contracting companies working on the Solar Plant Khi-one, Bokpoort and Xena. Tswalu well...very nice but expensive!!! Marnitz in Keimoes is a small little hill, called Tierkop, above Tierkop you can see down the valley on a clear day.
