So Bela Bela 5150 tomorrow. Woke up with s swollen gland under my left jaw, first thought it was mumps, doctor luckily excluded that. Just a swollen gland, might be an infection.

Now my question, I'm not in any discomfort, it's not sore, I don't have fever or flu like symptoms, my resting HR is comfortable at 50bpm. I feel 100% great.

He prescribed Amoclan bid anti-biotics (amoxyllin&clavulanic acid) and hit me with a voltaren and cortizone injection.

So Doc mentioned I should play it by ear, if the swelling has cleared up a bit by tomorrow morning I'm good to go for the race. If my condition is worse, or any fever / flu like symptoms creep up then obviously I wouldn't partake.

Second opinion from another Doc also cleared me for the race.

My question, is it really a good idea to start taking the Anti-Biotic now, shouldn't I wait until Sunday? I'm scared it will affect my HR during the race? Or would this specific kind not affect, and would in fact help the infection subside?

Take the AB NOW...

Watch your heart rate and temps - if they elevate, then rather sit out the race.

The AB will have no affect on your HR per se - the infection might,l so early treatment is advised.

Personally I would say it is safer to just sit out the race or at least take it relatively easy.

I am not a doctor but my understanding is that the antibiotic is not your issue. The issue is the underlying illness.

Take the medicine, it will get whatever lurgy you have, better quicker. The medicine will not harm you during exercise.

If said lurgy is a worry to your performance/health then take a break. The lurgy can harm you.

The other thing you need to consider is about exposing all the other athlete's to what ever it is?

Yup, this was my first concern, not only for the other athletes, but my missus is 14 weeks pregnant, so if it was contagious in any way I would've had to avoid even her. Luckily just inflammation.

Thanks for all the advice, I managed to compete and the AB did not affect my HR, everything was stable and I managed to have an awesome race
