Cleaning Pivots

Hi All

I need to hear from the people here how they go about cleaning the pivots on their full suspension bikes. Is it a case of just the hose and running water over the pivots, a sprayer, a high pressure hose or what? Or is it a case of only gets cleaned when you strip down to replace bearings? Also what sort of "lube" do you guys/girls use to keep things running smoothly in the pivots?

Thanks

Only real way is to strip the pivot and clean the insides and bearings out. NEVER a high pressure gun. I use the blue marine  grease to lube up

Blue marine grease is used on outboard motors and the like. Get it at any boating place. Extremely water repellent and great for bikes. Inexpensive compared to the massive markups on overhyped greases with fancy colours at your LBS.

As mentioned HP sprayers will damage the bearings your  degreasers...Tool-in-a can/Q20 will also cause problems over time.

I use a 2 liter pump up garden sprayer ...filled with hot water and car cleaner/soap(not degreaser).its a low pressure sprayer So i spray  the soapy mixture onto frame a clean off dirt  with a soft brush. For the chain,Chain-rings and pivot points I re-pressure the sprayer and turn it upside down... it then spays a layer of foam onto and into the the hard to get places.

Quick clean for bike Windowlene works like a charm spray on wipe off

Yamalube waterproof blue grease, around R80 for a 50mm tub, then buy a medium syringe for R5 at a pharmacy and sorted!

Any yamaha watersports dealer will stock it or even a yamaha motor bike place should able to special order it.
