The red circles will not be needed, as the Giant has an integraged Headset.

Does CK have something better than the thing I point out in the arrow? That is the race that the bottom bearing sit on, and I am yet to see / find a headset that has a nice "seal" there to keep grime out.

yes they do, well the model I had at least. It wasn't the crown race though, It was an extra seal in that sat in the bottom cup, it made it harder to push the steerer tube though the headtube, but once its fitted, it is watertight.

CK don't make integrated bearings, they're of the (correct, IMO) opinion that it's a *** system.

They do make a zero stack though, which will work on your frame. A bit of overkill on an Anthem though, I'd say.

What you need are 45/45 bearings - the originals on Giants are FSA, but KCNC make one that will work as well.

I'd also suggest you check your suspension pivots while you're about it...

Here's a picture of the spacer below the stem, which I cant get closer to the frame for some reason:

Good call, it might have been a very expensive wash doublej

As droo said, you looking for this part

mmmmm no, hold on....my CK headset that I had on my niner(EMD with straight steerer) had a seal second to none at the bottom. Nothing against giant, but I doubt their bottom seal is that good

There is no seal as far as I know, except for the seal ON the bearing

there was one on mine...now that you mention it, it could have been the top seal. But my point is that it took some effort getting the steerer tube though the headset. If the seal was on the top it would also make sense since water coming in from the top would just go an sit on the bearing without draining.

Anyhow...its a system...good seals and good bearings. You really have to go the whole nine yards to get the benefit.

Re-greased everything now....looks like the new bearings/headset/CK Cups is coming soon.

Just get new bearings, the same at the bottom as what you have but look / ask LBS for the top bearing that is 1mm "thinner"

For sure, but that is what I meant you need everything for it to work. And I don't know of CK headset that will work with a Giant frame, except for what Droo mentioned :-)

Giant uses semi-integrated or zerostack headsets on their MTBs. It has cups, but they're inside the headtube.

The thing that the bottom bearing sits on is the crown race, and just keeps the bearing centred on the steerer. Cane Creek make one with an extra seal, but the seals on the CK bearings are good enough that the extra one isn't necessary.

Will do thanks man....I dont know what that gap is between the frame and the spacer. I dont know if its always been like that. It is an aftermarket stem...maybe the chap forgot to put a spacer there I dont know?

This is what I said, and I did ask if CC made a better "seal" for the bottom
