Tow Bar Advice

Hey Guys

I have a Suzuki SX4 (2009) that I want to put a tow bar on.  I've read a few threads here and cant really find a clear answer.  I want to use the tow bar primarily to mount some sort of bike rack on (2 bikes mtb) but i do also want to tow a trailer now and then (hired one).

What kind of tow bar would best suit the above and roughly what price range would i be looking at?  Also any recommended firment centres would be greatly appreciated.

Snoochie Boochies.

would start at the agents for advice and then shop around at supa quick etc to see who offers best value for money. The most important thing is to make sure they use a proper connector for your wiring loom, so no cutting of wires

in EL the agents charge R5800 for a bosal towbar

if the vehicle is out of warranty you can fit at any normal fitment centre at about R3000

Just had a Towbar fitted on my Audi A4. I took it through to Towbar SA and they charged me R2250 all inclusive. There was the Thule option which is detachable at around R4750 but that involved a little cut in my bumper which I wasn't all that keen on although they say "it's not visible".

My advice would be to you before choosing which Towbar to go for is wether or not you'll be utilizing it often in which case go for a fitted towbar, if you don't use it regularly but want the option of having it then go the detachable route. Also with this option it does open up the possibility of it being snatched off your car when you don't have a rack or anything on it and using it on as a daily basis.

Yeah the vehicle is out of waranty.  I have been getting quotes of R5000 just though that was a little steep.

Also quite ok with the fixed option.

Just beware of bosal towbars...the electrical units are sub contracted out to varies companies around SA...when it comes to repairing/replacing the expensive electronic box they fit...that's when it gets interesting...They dont have a lifetime warranty like the towbar...that part only has a couple month warranty...I am told that they are aware of the problem with the VW unit...and are prepared to replace it for small fee of R1200 :(

Not sure exactly where you're based but if you're down in Durban then give Towbar SA or Towrite a call... Their pricing is very competitive and like I said, paid R2250 for a fitted Towbar all inclusive

I went to get a towbar fitted to my new car recently only to be told it already had one...

So they showed me how to use it. Im pretty sure this kind would be quite expensive but its great not having to see it when its not in use.
