New Cassette

This is almost a "how long is a piece of string" question without some more info.

What groupset / cassette do you currently have on there? Do you want to replace with same / similar, or cheaper/lighter/more durable.

11-34 / 11-36 ratio, etc?

Apologies I am new with MTB, did not realize what info I need to add,

This is what I currently have:

Sram x9 Crank & shifters

Sram PG1070 Cassette

Sram XO rear derailleur

Avid elixir Brakes

Sram x9 front derailleur

It was a stock standard Giant XTC Comp 2012 model

OK, Barry, do you want to just replace your current cassette with a similar one?

If yes, look at online Shops like Evobikes, CWC, GS Sport, Attitude Cycles, etc to find the best prices.

The SRAM components is good quality, but can be a bit expensive. There is compatible, but cheaper options available. You just need to decide at which pricepoint you are happy with.

Thanks Wannabe, will contact the dealers and see if I can replace the groupset with the same one, if I change to something else I probably need to change other stuff also.

No need to change the groupset (that is shifters, crankset, derailers, cassette, chain, brakes, etc)

All you need to replace is the cassette, and as a precaution, the chain too.

You need t decide if you want to replace same with same, and pay the price for it, or if you want to go a bit cheaper (and mostly a bit heavier)

If you shop around, there is decent replacement components at good prices.

If your cassette and chain are both really badly worn then your front chainrings might also need a look.

You can buy chain gauges or ask the shop to check chainwear. How many chains thru this cassette so far?

I normally go thru 2 or 3 chains per cassette and only replace front rings when they start skipping.

Noticing now with 1x10 that my 11t and 13t cogs are skipping even before the 2nd chain has worn to about 0.5%
