Just got a reply to an add for assos FI.13 bibs...bought the Mille S 5 at a really good price...now they are offering the FI 13 for less than half the selling price and R 500 cheaper than advertised here on the bike hub 2 years ago...looks like the edge 520 will have to wait [emoji3] going shopping tomorrow morning...was trying to decide which one to take the other day...now I can have one of each the Mille for the long rides and FI 13 just for everyday rides.

A question to anyone who owns the FI 13....I was concerned about the chamois moving because it is not stitched like the Mille?

Is the FI 13 an upgrade from the Mille...price is normally much higher for the FI 13?

I've been riding different cycling brands for the past ten years.

I'm gonna have to say Castelli comes out on top. It's super comfy. I have the Castelli Rosso Corsa bibs.

Locally made kit, I find that Panda is the better one out there.

I can only talk from my limited use of my recent purchase...man if you weigh more than 100 kg and spend hundreds of hours slogging away because it takes 3 hrs longer than everyone else to finish a ride...the S5 mille bib will change your riding experience...maybe one day when i get skinny i will look at other brands.

I should have bought this bib at the beginning....it would have made my 3000km + experience a whole lot more comfortable.

Welcome to the Assos family.

The S5 models are great if you can still get them ... and if you can they are often at good prices.

The Mille is marketed as the long distance shorts so great for long hours in the saddle.

Also a more relaxed fit and better suited to bigger riders.

Doubt you'll change brands when you're skinny ... you may just change Assos models.

the price I paid for the first pair was very reasonable in fact it was cheaper than all the other "good brands" mentioned here ...the only reason i am buying a second pair is because of the insane cheap price i can get them at...sometimes it pays to be xxl   ;)

not sure if I should get a second pair of mille or rather get the Fi 13 S5.

suidwes boytjie..pm sent.

just a note...solomons is clearing stock of the S5...I think they only have big sizes like TIR left of the S5 mille and Fi13...and some others...if you looking for a really good price...i would suggest you send them a message or call them.

glad i tried on the Fi 13...it answered my question straight away...felt like someone gave me a wedgie but in the front...the regular leg seems to be longer than the mille...Fi 13 certainly doesnt fit my profile....the chamois  feels toooo small...enough said.

I wear an xl first accent...

glad i tried on the TIR i thought it would be way toooooo big...turns out it is a perfect fit.

I am 1.8 m tall and have a butt width measured on the assometer at specialized at 143 mm plus all the extra padding...weigh just under 110 kg.

legs do feel a bit tight when i get back from a ride but i am sure that is normal.

I have a few pairs of F1.13 and I must agree with ISETECH, may not be as comfortable for the bigger guys. I am 68 kg and where a medium so no wedgie for me.

I wonder if Assos are actually that good, or if its that nobody who shells out that much for a pair of bibs will ever admit that they're just ordinary... :whistling:

I am a cheapskate. I bought Assos once on a clearance sale from Kim Johnson in Edenvale, about 6 years ago. I still wear them, regularly. They are as good as the day I bought them. I am still too cheap to buy a new pair and so buy First Ascent, problem is they are overrated IMO. and now I need more shorts! First Ascent do an upmarket pair, problem is the sizing is way off compared to the R 800.00 FA's? Assos fit in the right place! I need to tell First Ascent that I do not sit on my nut sack, I sit on my ass!!

Something to take into account...is fitness level...time spent in the saddle...weight and body profile

When you are new to cycling you tend to "sit" heavy in the seat and spend more time sitting be it a mtb or road bike ride....so your crotch gets seriously chaffed and bruised...you walk like a cowboy after a long ride and end up rubbing baby bum cream in huge quantities...i dont know if skinny cyclist endue the same discomfort...

then as i did you start looking to change the saddle...you try thick ones...soft ones or wide ones...i then went to specialised and did a butt measure and bought what i thought was the correct one...it was as hard as hell and flippen uncomfortable...i was going to return it and get my money back...then finally...what i should have done right at the beginning...what i keep telling people when they start cycling...get a decent pair of cycling shorts

would I have spend R2- 3600 on a pair of assos...2 weeks ago before i bought my first mille...definitely not... That price just sounds way over the top.

@ R1500 i was smiling all the way to the bank but more important no longer experiencing the discomfort in the saddle...a win win situation...so i "invested" in a spare pair.

Only used fox and first accent...so comparing them to assos mille...wouldnt be fair...they are not in the same league.

Has anyone used DHB bibs (from Wiggle in the UK)?

They get rave reviews and are half the price of others.

Otherwise, I bought 3 pairs of Adidas bibs off Wiggle 6 years ago and they still work really well.
