Man, we ran into this a while back with a mates bike, and got incredibly lucky... Used the saddle mounted on the rails to give the Seatpost a couple of very solid whacks sideways, and luckily after a few it budged. Once it budged, we knew at least it was mostly unstuck. Removed saddle, sprayed penetrating oil, and used some plumbing pliers to grab thentop and keep twisting. Eventually moved enough to twist easily enough to have someone start pulling up, and out she came after a bit...

Reason enough to just grease your post to start with, and redo when you do your major drivetrain cleans.

Hi Hubbers

Due to neglect on my behalf I am in the position where I have a seat post jammed in my steel Niner MCR (Reynolds 852 tubing)

The LBS had a go at moving it and gave up. (Not sure how hard they tried) They suggested I lubricate the top of post and ride with the seat clamp loose hoping that my weight eventually dislodges it. While I am not thrilled at the safety aspects of this approach I have tried it on a few district road training rides with no luck. (Do I need to eat more pies?)

Aside from clamping the post in a vice and wrestling the frame does anyone have any other options I can try?

I am looking to replace the post with one with zero lay back so not a major issue if it gets damaged. The frame of course is my bigger concern.

And yes the lesson on lubricating the post has now been learnt!

Thanks,

Mike

If youre going to replace the seatpost anyway...drill a hole through the post,6-8mm then push a rod or similar object through it to use as leaverage. This is now after the Coke and Q20 sessions!

I have also heard that, once you've done the penetrating fluid of your choice, you can place the Seatpost in a vice, and use the Frame to apply leverage. At your own very dodgy risk, of course.
