Looking at the results for the Half Marathon and then picking random names and looking at their Strava rides it is obvious that the first few groups all did a somewhat shorter route of around 28km and missed out the loop to the north after the second water point. It will be nteresting to see how that mess gets sorted out as they should all be excluded.  I sympathise as it was not intentional but it does screw up the seeding for those that did the full route.

Well between the lead bike and marshall the did not open the gate for the half, but waved them straight. How do you exclude all of batch a and b?

The whole of A, B and a part of C did a shorter route, +/- 28km - I followed all route markings so unless a sign had fallen over I don't think there was a sign at that point in time. One of the advendurance guys in a Red Nissan bakkie was busy opening a farm gate shortly after the second water point when I passed him, so I assume this is where the route deviation occurred (I compared my Strava ride with a mate of mine's who was in one of the lower batches).

With regards to timing, they must either DQ all riders in the half, or try to adjust the times either up or down to "fix" the times

And what would happen if the route marker fell over after A ,B and C batches were already on the longer route and the rest of the field then followed the route as marked and did the much shorter route. Would all the A batch riders be happy to finish in positions 300 to 400 overall?

Same thing happened in #1 where the A and some of the B batch did an extra loop. They tried to fix the times which resulted in a big mess. It resulted in a guy from Batch H coming 7th!!!

After a couple hundred meters you would see no boards and turn around. Whenever you turn off a road there is a marshall.

You should rather ask when the marshall has a little lie down, picking their nose while swatting flies with a piece of red nissan tape, as seen at a few turn offs today, while the back batches follow a shorter route......

This is not the first time this year. Advendurance set the standard with event organization, this year has not been up to their standards

Anyway that was my last nissan trailseeker

there was a marker-board that was "On the ground", on the right hand side of the road, 1 km after the 2nd water-point;

The problem (at least from my perspective) is that, those 20km distance riders + their extended family members + 10 "unsupervised" toddlers hogging the whole road! & that makes many of the 40km rider spend time dodging those "riders" and not paying attentions to the detour signs :(

I almost missed the turn-off at that point, but managed to get back to the correct path with some "sharp" move...

"According to Strava", what surprised me is that, total distance was only 36.8 km.... (but that alone is another discussion topic)

Understand what you mean, but A-batch almost finished before the first 20's started though...

Yes, the short route issue....to be continued :(

The A batch always finishes before the 20's start. I have a son in A batch and a friend in 20's and she always complains that he finishes before she starts. All the time, not just today. In actual fact, we usually leave for home before she start! :whistling:

Same old story with the Nissan Series .... Don't care how they try and fix it but i will be pretty p'ed off of they DQ us A, B or even C batch riders ... We rode what they gave us ( even if it was 28km's ) For the biggest series in SA its actually a joke i think ... But at least it really was a fun day out ...

I am totally pissed. No result for me and my buddy. I askthe guy if he scan me and he confirmed. I was not convince and think the guys was not very sure of himself. I wonder if they still looking for us. Dont think so.

Ride 76 km in F batch was turn around and was a at the back of g and h batch. Some guy warn the marshall there was a problem with the route markings because he recevied

a phone call from a friend in a batch. Was send way on time and have done 4 km detour.

Some of the waterpoints again dry like Hakahana. What now must i send my garmin route and hope they will put on the results. Done all 5 races but start to ask qeustions for next year

Was also part of C batch in the marathon ......... doing the Cullinan wander at that first split point (arrow definitely said straight, not right where we ended up going). Other than that the route markings were OK and water points stocked when I came past

Unfortunately I was classified as being part of the A - Ladies batch not C batch  :cursing:

Good news from that is that I podiumed as 1st placed Vet Man in the A batch - first time I have won something  . Have sent them a pic of my Garmin time and will see what happens

Having to drive a little over 2 hours to get to the race , I opted to rather do the 40 seeing that It started a little later than the 70. Decided I'll do quality over quantity and gunned it from the go in the A batch. I forced a goo down at about 25 Kay's , thinking I was going to need it for the next 15 kays or so. And then 3 kays later - the Finish !!! Felt like I did the kiddies race. Speaking of which, the 20 km race also turned out to be only 14,4 km !!! WTF ??

So the story about the 40km was because of a gate that should have been open but wasn't.

They should have gone through the gate but couldn't. The riders in the A-batch stayed on "the route" which did eventually get them onto the last bit of the right route - so there were arrows etc further on, so no chance of realising you were on the wrong route.

My wife was not happy. First because she had to pay full race price and due to a fault on the side of the organisers, she did not get to do the whole route and also not even an official result.

I felt sorry for the back markers in the 70km. Garmin clocked a nice 37 degree max near the end of my race. (I finished around 10 o' clock...)

Hi guys, this was certainly the most disappointing race in my life. Did 87 km's instead of 70 with an official  average on record of 14.6 km per hour. Bad markings and untrained officials. You can not get any worse than this. Is it still worthwhile to support Advendurance?
