I've been considering the new 11 speed Rook as a budget gravel/bikepacking option. Hoping to get a closer look at one on the Easter weekend

Bit of a strange comment? The bikers are on the onramp, inside the designated lane, have not crossed the solid line - can't possiby see how they contributed to this? To be fair though, when I still rode I was also no fan of big group rides.

I did through Big Bay events and you book a week block, they look for the best day. But knowing the Cape, even that might not be enough. February is supposed to be best from what I have heard

To add to what the others said - get as much open water swim practice in as possible and then try get adapted to cold water, as in really cold. I did it 2 weeks ago and water temp was 12.8.

I'm not sure on that whole route, to be honest. I have done parts of it on a normal ride (between main gravel road, past dam and heading due east back to main gravel road) and possible some of it as part of a race one year (from Suiderstrand back over the dunes to the main gravel road). Was sandy but rideable ....... I can't remember walking at least I will see if I can find the route we used on strava

Tar road between Struisbaai and Bredarsdorp is, in my opinion, dangerous. Narrow and everyone speeds along there. At times there are footpaths next to the road but very rough riding

I'm also going to throw in a vote for Coros as a great option at a very good price. Been using a Pace 2 for about 9 months and can't complain too much.

There is an alternative route that bypasses Lehana's - apparently more riding than walking. I think he turned the rwrong way when he got to the Naude's Nek pass road but seems to have fixed it now. The Vuvu valley where Charl has gone wrong is very deceptive, easy to make a mistake. Even Tim James spent a night wandering around in there (granted it was dark).

I have only ever used Ferric chloride but have read that these also work fairly reliably: Instant coffee - some swear by hot water and others say warm water is sufficientApple cider vinegar warmed up first

Try Archers Edge in Moreleta. Not sure if they offer training but will probably be able to point you in a direction at least

Can anyone assist in how to set this trainer for a 29" mountain bike? Sorry if my terminology is dodgy ......... If I do manage to get the axle locked in then the wheel rests on the black plastic below the idler. If I change the drive unit position on the frame so that the wheel is on the idler then I cannot get anywhere near to locking in the axle
