  1. Congrats on the new car, looking good! ???? Glad you found a solution for the bike rack. On your comment about remembering the bike is up there and not going under anything low - Friends of mine hang something from either the rear view mirror or the steering wheel when they put their bike on the roof, might look a bit crap or be irritating (well to me at least but guess that's the point) but should hopefully remind you of the precious cargo on the roof
  2. Is it still possible to see someone's profile name history on the updated site? Can't see the option like I used too, but I might just be looking in the wrong place... ????????
  3. I use ridewithgps.com to map routes and then export the gpx or tcx (depending on what you use) from here and import on my garmin 820. Works fairly well, you sometimes have to select a different map mode (i.e. OSM cycle) if you are unable to draw a line from one point to another due to road direction or gravel shortcut, etc. Haven't had issues with u turn navigation or the sort while using this. I think the route planner on strava is for premium subscribers only, have had issues mapping certain sections of routes in the past. PS. Unless you have already come right on Strava.
  4. May hasn't been a really good month for me, have managed to basically get to the same weight I was at the beginning of the month and that was just due to eating "normal" again for the last 10 days. Was away for work for 2 weeks and away for 2 weekends which didn't help the cause at all. Although I didn't really eat badly in that time I just ate too much. And this continues to be my biggest issue, but I am still positive and know I will reach my goal (or get close to it) of losing another 6.5kg's by the end of the year.
  5. My wife and I have one "cheat meal" on a weekend or every second weekend, used to be a cheat day but that takes like 4-5 days to get rid of all the weight again - to clarify what I mean with cheat meal is we maybe have a braai with some fatty lamb chops and a braai broodjie or corn bread where I would normally have only half or no bread. Or maybe share a pizza - still take thin base though to cut down on the amount of dough. And sometimes we have a dessert - on the smallish side. We try to do this at lunch time so that you still have some time to burn some of the calories off. I always feel slightly guilty afterwards but decided life is too short too always eat the right thing - and I still manage to loose weight, the cheat meal causes me to take 1-2 days to get back to the weight I was before but sometimes it is really necessary (for me at least). I have sometimes seen this help a bit when I have reached a plateau in my weight loss journey, but maybe that is just what I tell myself I don't think I have really answered your question .
  6. April was a bit like a yo-yo in terms of my weight, traveled quite a bit for work, including weekends which didn't really help. Portion size still remains the biggest issue, and fried food during travels . Have reached my initial goal of 95kg so that's good, still positive that I will get below 90 by the end of the year (even with winter in the middle)
  7. After much deliberation and discussions with the wife I decided to pull the trigger and get an initial loadshedding solution installed, with the idea of expanding the system when finances allow. I decided to go the non DIY route and contacted a company that did a work colleague's installation 2 years ago that is still running without issues. I know I will have to replace batteries sooner with this setup, but at least I can now run the basic things in my house when Eskom decides to pull the plug. I will now save to replace with Lithium batteries when the time comes I did not connect the geyser, stove, 1 plug circuit and 2 light circuits. I need to go through a process of replacing light fittings and globes in my house before I can include the light circuits. We have a few plug in lamps and these already have LED globes already and will provide enough light during a power down period, together with 4 Magneto lights if needed. Therefore I only connected 5 plug circuits on the inverter, leaving the 1 off where the kettle and washing machine and dishwasher is connected as I don't want an overload scenario The circuits connected is for my fridge and deep freeze (kitchen), ONT and router (study), TV and dstv and cctv (lounge), alarm (main bedroom), garage I installed the inverter and batteries in the garage and also added the panels to the garage roof, my setup is as follows: 5000W 48V pure sine wave inverter 4 x 345 Mono Panels 8 x 100AH GEL/AGM batteries I couldn't wait for the first power outage to see how it will work, and last night when loadshedding started at 21:00 it was fantastic because other than the lounge light going off everything remained exactly like it was before. And now my wife also understands how it "works".
  8. We all get side tracked from time to time, as you say as long as you don't let that become the norm you have the right mindset and the weight will continue to come off. Good luck!
  9. Unfortunately not really, I am a consultant based as various clients' sites, and I often need to go for meetings offsite at the random times (taking my laptop along). I would love to commute however, maybe in future I can manage that somehow What I should really do however is getting up at 4:30 and going for a cycle around the neighborhood, or going in the afternoon when I do actually get home early.
  10. Hahaha yes it is , what I however didn't mention is that I am going out for dinner a few times this weekend so will indulge myself with some dessert
  11. Lost just over 2kg this month, which is pretty similar to last month, I am seeing steady progress and the centimetres is coming off which is my biggest benefit at the moment. 2021 Eating habits is already set and my wife and I can maintain this sort of lifestyle. Work is playing havoc with any type of exercise at the moment, but I am going cycling twice this long weekend which is more than in went in the last month Still positive and my initial goal of 95kg is only 750g away. Very sure that I will reach my goal weight of 88kg by (or before) the end of the year. Well done on everyone's progress. With regards to easter eggs, I only have one medium size Lindt bunny to eat
  12. Only updated the sheet this morning. Work has been crazy this last 10 days. February progress was a bit slower than I hoped, but I still lost 2kg's from end of January. Biggest issue was that I had to travel for work again which meant I had to buy food and not cook something at home so I overdid the portion size and the odd dessert a bit (at home we cook just enough). Lost the weight again that I picked up during the trip but that "wasted" 2 weeks of possible weight loss. One good thing at least is I am used to eating less, I can eat at or before 6 in the evening and not get hungry at 9. Anyway, well done all, keep it up!
  13. Great stuff! Thanks for the confirmation.
  14. Looks like a very nice set. Who did you purchase from online? Same company you can collect from in Kempton Park? Edit: Is it these guys? https://topdogtoolshop.co.za/product/metabo-bit-box-and-ratchet-set-sp-26-pieces/
  15. January went well, lost just over 4kg, portion size and cutting out sugar was the biggest contributor. First time since 2019 that I am under 100kg so I am happy. Positive about what is to come and know I will be able maintain this lifestyle.
  16. I want to respond but I am actually speechless, although by now I know I shouldn't expect anything less of our state institutions. They can't provide stable supply and prevent loadshedding, but now realise they are going to loose out as more and more people are starting to generate their own electricity
  17. Thanks for all the info, appreciate it!
  18. My alarm stays on for quite a while on battery - probably not 24 hours but that might be due to the 3 outside beams. However I have seen during the last round of loadshedding the alarm battery doesn't manage to charge enough to remain on during subsequent loadshedding slots - it does not help that we have 2.5 hour slots that can occur 5 hours apart - after a few days I start getting low battery alerts, and it even died once. I have replaced the battery with a gel battery which lasts longer but the inverter setup is definitely the solution and / or end goal.
  19. Thank you, that answers my question. And yes it runs off a 12V battery currently
  20. Thank you very much everyone for all the information, I will go read up a bit more and save some more to ensure I put something decent in to start off with. One question which one of you might be able to answer, I read somewhere that alarm system beams only "like" 12V, does that mean I shouldn't even bother to look at higher voltage inverters? Or can additional converters, etc be installed to cater for something like this
  21. Thank you for the information especially around the cheaper hybrid inverters, I am less confused but can see that my initial capital outlay are going to be a bit more expensive than initially anticipated if I want to do it properly, i.e. lithium batteries. Appreciate the input
  22. We recently bought a new house, and I want to look at getting a "small" loadshedding setup with the idea of adding onto it at a later stage (batteries and solar panels). To start of the idea is to probably get an inverter between1.5kva and 3kva (pure sinewave), since the idea is to add-on later and I don't want to get to the situation someone explained above, i.e. my inverter doesn't have enough capacity for everything added, probably 2 batteries (either 100/105AH or 150AH) and some solar panels if I can afford it all. There are lots of information, and starting reading up on it I am getting confused, so hopefully someone here can shed some light. 1. Is a 24V inverter better than a 12V inverter? 2. My assumption is that I need a Hybrid inverter to use both power from solar and the grid, is this is the case? If not, what is needed? 3. Anything else I should know, or perhaps a few links to sites I can use to get more information? I will get someone to come and do the installation, etc for me, I just want to know what is happening so that I don't get bullsh**ed into something not needed or not necessarily correct. Plus I would like to do additional add-on's myself in future (if possible).
  23. In again this year, last 2 years I fell off the wagon half way through the year, lockdown didn't help last year and not having any cycling related goals meant I didn't really have an exercise plan or didn't mind that much if I was lazy and missed a weekend of cycling. Have been hovering over 100kg's for the last 10 months. Both me and the wife overdid the sweets in our December holiday so we doing this together which helps a lot. She joined some Linda Kriel fitness app which gives her eating plans and recipes for which ever type of "diet or lifestyle" you want to follow and that really helps a lot, I have adjusted it slightly for a little higher calorie intake but it works well thus far (only been 8 days) but already see I don't need that much food. Since my biggest issue has always been portion size and second helpings. Also trying to do 30min cardio a day, which is really not that difficult I have realized. Anyway didn't weigh in on the 1st, but only on the 3rd - tipped the scale at 103.9KG - initial goal is 95KG, and then finally somewhere between 84-88KG.
  24. Jammer as ek dit vroeƫr gemis het, maar hoe gereeld word uitgawes vrygestel?
  25. Thanks, I have actually forgotten what Modderfontein looks like during the rainy season, I think I will rather skip it and just go ride Hennops
