  1. Yes you are right! About 11km from the finish around 12pm.
  2. Found a Cateye computer on the Cape town cycle tour today. Please contact me with a discription if you think it might be yours.
  3. I saw the medics giving someone CPR coming down Chapman peak (if I remember correctly). Does anyone know what happened and if he is okay?
  4. . The helicopter in the pics is the Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk. Mark Jackson and his company Leading Edge Aviation is contracted by Working on Fire to assist in the Western Cape during fire season (other part of the year they are at home base in Nelspruit). They are using the Black Hawk (appropriately also known as the Fire Hawk) as well as Hueys (Bell UH-1). So, no the helicopter did not come from the American boats. ????
  5. I only use squirt lube on my bike, to be honest I have never degreased my nx 1x12 chain in 2 years and done about 4000km on the same chain and it is only on the 0.5% mark of wear. I also lube only on the inside of the chain, for a max of 2 revolutions. The drive train is silent, a bit dusty on the sides of the chain yes, but the rollers between the links are clean and not sticky at all. I tend to apply new lube after about 3 or 4 rides.
  6. Sounds brilliant. I would love to join too!
  7. I have also been doing the reflective tape thing for years now. I stick a strip lengthwise over the bottom of my crank arms, it doubles as protection against hitting rocks, and its visible from front and back. I have tape around the top of my seatpost as well as a super bright red flashing cob LED. As a school cycling coach, i use high visibility jackets during practice (yes we look like car guards, but hey, safety first, cant take any chances with a bunch of kids) - motorists immediately see its an "organised" ride, they are friendly, wave and even give way at crossings- even if its a stop sign for us. Safety is more important than looking cool- besides, whats the point of looking cool in your colour coded outfit, if no one can SEE you. ????
  8. I had the same choice of bikes earlier this year. I settled for the Merida big nine lite NX version. I am extremely satisfied with my choice and would buy it again. Comes out with a Manitou markhor shock, Deore MT500 brakes and hubs, Sram NX 1x12 eagle groupset, boost hub spacing. 15k from Solomons cycles in Pretoria. Whoops, didnt realise this is an old thread. Please ignore my reply
  9. I had a similar incident a year ago. Picked up a 520,no info on it. Garmin couldn't tell me whom it belonged to, and my post on lost and found also didn't get any replies. I registered the device to my strava, synced the last ride and then saw the owner rode with me... I contacted him through strava then. I went through all that trouble just for the oke to send an Uber to pick it up from me, he did not even send me a proper thank you, nothing. At least i can tell myself i did the right thing, hopefully someone does something similar when i lose my stuff.
  10. Hi all, I am tackling a new project and need some spares. I am willing to pay. I need the following: 1x front wheel (preferably 26" with disc hub) 1x 26" fork (rigid or shock with disc mount) 1x broken/snapped frame for the above fork (I basically need the headset and steerertube of the frame) 1x mechanical brake lever If you think you might have something I need, please let me know.
  11. Sorry, "600" https://solomonscycles.co.za/products/merida-one-twenty-600-2019/
  12. Solomons cycles in Pretoria has a special now. Merida one twenty 800 with NX eagle for R25000. Best buy in my opinion
  13. Hi guys, sorry i am new to the area. Do you perhaps know who to contact and how much a yearly entry is for 2019?
  14. I don't know why though, they make incredible devices! What I am wondering is whether I can manually send the files to them or use another program to sync it to Vitality?
  15. Is here anyone who has experience with logging activities to Vitality from a Lezyne gps unit? I am new to the Discovery wagon and need some guidance... If this question has been answered already, I apologise, but i couldn't find it via the search function.
  16. Another thing to keep in mind about Gauteng specifically - the number of participants at these races. They had to split the province in 3 sub groups this year because the tracks cannot physically accommodate 200+ kids racing on a +-4km lap. These routes are laid out on and around school grounds, with a lot of singletrack. Its quite difficult to pass a [not yet skilled] kid stuck in singletrack on his/her Makro[spur] bicycle- it causes a lot of frustration for the more serious riders. Now throw in another 50odd serious homeschoolers into the already super crammed track...CHAOS I have other issues with this league- giving every rider a point towards their school for just starting the race. This is to "promote the sport" but how demotivating for schoolA with 10 good riders competing with schoolB who pitches with 70+ riders (75% of which are just there to get 1 point for their school and their main goal is to strategically slow down the riders behind them) Like many previous posts said; rather take your daughter to the usn, xco,Trailseeker,SAcups and spare her [and yourself] the frustration. The level of competition and competence at these races are much more worth it!
  17. Thank you. If you know of someone willing to sell, please let me know
  18. I noted that the online entries are closed for the 40km event. Should I still be able to enter at Lynnwood cyclery tomorrow, or rather at the event?
  19. Thanks for the tips. I will check out the FB page. There is a bike Park opposite the Le Grand gholf estate, I haven't been there in a long time- is it still worth checking out?
  20. Good day, I will be staying in George till the new year and have a short bucket list. I would like to ride the seven passes road to Knysna and take the car back, and on another occasion do the Montagu pass. Are these roads safe to cycle alone, or should I rather ask for some volunteers to do these rides with me?
  21. I have the Sram nx 11speed 11-42, all steel. I am considering going for the 11-50 Sunrace, but reading this thread makes me sceptical. Is it really a common problem?
  22. Could it be that some Sunrace cassettes make use of aluminium larger cogs to save on weight? Check out the pdf on this link http://www.sunrace.com/en/products/detail/csmx80 Largest cog is 7075 aluminium.
