Action camera durability

Hi,

For some months I've used Drift Stealth 2 to record my actions. I must say I'm really happy about this camera, not only because of its shape and comfort of wearing, but mostly because of its durability. I dropped it several times (my mistake) and once I had a 'crash landing' and the camera was always ok and... didn't stop recording! :)

Do you have any similar experiences?

GoPro came off the suction mount at about 180kph at the end of the main straight at Kyalami - still works fine after we found it in the kitty litter - somewhat scratched cover... :)

There are cases of them being lost underwater for a couple of years and still being operational.

I Havent had any experience with this camera myself but am quite interested in uying myself an sj4000 wifi Sports Camera and was wondering if anyine had any experience with these

Yes I've got an sj4000.... Great camera, only the angle bar that cam with broke (plastic) on around 40km/h and the camera fell on rocks but Dit not even stop recording.

So I got myself an aluminium mount and all is great!

I use a go pro...it wouldnt be my first choice when i upgrade...the reasons...

On the revel...lots of vibration....when you get to watch the replay.

On the anthem not so bad.

Because i take forever to finish my ride/race....battery life sucks...i suppose i could carry spare batteries....what i have tried....to mount the remote on the handlebars....to save battery ...still only get to record half the ride/race....i know...i need to ride faster.

If you ride into the sun...pic quality is bad....but i am sure this is the case with most cameras.

If you ride on a hot day with the waterproof cover....even with the white pad in it...the camera shuts down due to overheating...the lens mists up...if you dont and it starts raining or the bike ends up in the river...then you are screwed...or the dust gets in everywhere.

One Thing about action cameras...you need to have a good mate who enjoys editing or you need to be a patient person to sit and edit....i found the remote on the handlebars saves many wasted hours of editing.

The case can take a lot of abuse and vibration.

I have also been looking at this camera.

Care to share where you are getting yours from, I'm from Pretoria East so we can even share postage maybe.

PM me if you're keen.

So I just recently purchased my first action camera and I went for the Go Pro hero 4 silver, I had initially bought the black edition but not having a screen to me was a major downside which the silver made up for it although it may lack a few high end features which I won't really use. I bought an aluminium K-edge mount because everyone I spoke to kept telling me that the original GoPro mount can be quite fragile because it's plastic. I've used it a few times now and I love it! Only downside is the battery life of 3-3.5 hours and the fact that i don't have the remote for it but I believe you can get an extended battery pack for it.

Any views on the TomTom Bandit with regards to durability. At the moment I am looking at either the TomTom or the Gopro. I like the fact that GoPro has the case to protect it where the TomTom doesnt.

3 - 3.5 hours is good going in my opinion

3.5 hrs would be perfect...only problem with my go pro...on hot days...if i dont use the remote on the handlebar...the camera overheats and shuts down before the battery goes flat...i was told if i did the firmware upgrade it would resolve that issue...now i only use it for short fun rides.

Never Had any issues with the durability of the cases or mounts...sometimes the nuts fall out...a dab of super fixes that problem...i also use rubber tape to prevent the mount slipping.
