29er Front tire with some grip?

I am also upgrading from Maxxis Crossmark's f&b to Vittoria Barzo up front and Saguarno at the rear come month end.

My Crossmarks were long lasting, and have given me a good mix of tar riding ( on the way to the trails..) and some nice endurance on the trails. I have had zero flats in the year I've been running them, and they have held up nicely. I do suffer from a loss of confidence lately on ST, especially the twisty descents on Dorstberg and Contermans lately. It's as if I am anticipating  a washout around every corner. I'm running a HT 29er.

Crossmarks just don't fill me with confidence the moment it gets hairy out there.

You called!

Crossmarks after 10km of riding has lost all the grip it ever started with ... great for marathon type stuff when going in a straight line!

Take it off the front and use it at the back if you really have to.

That Vittoria upgrade is a decent move!

As a trail tyre, I have found the cheapish and cheerful ardents to be decent overall.....well this is from when I used to own a wagon wheeler.

What pressure do you run it at?

Run them tubeless at probably too much pressure, gotta be honest.

I will measure, but probably quite high - I am a big person, though. ;)

I am 110kgs and run mine at 1.5bar also tubeless - the ust version. Much better grip than even at 2 bar. Anything over 1.7bar for a ust ardent is too hard and the level of grip drops off dramatically.

I am fanatical about cornering and like Specialized Ground Control 2.1 grid. Great cornering and good rolling speed. Price is good.

Crossmark is generally horrible. Bombproof, yes but at the cost of very poor cornering grip and heavy weight. They are not cheap either.

I currently use WTB Wolverine. Excellent in thick sand and good on corners without sacrificing speed.

Best tread I have ever used is Conti X-King Chilli but this is very pricy. There's got to be a rip off somewhere in its pricing.

Racing Ralph is great but they love thorns, letting them in at every opportunity.
