I drink Heineken but keep them in the fridge for anyone who might be joining you in the build. Would be keen to help and put JB's course to good use.

RaceFace crankset in the bin. Have some clincher tyres as well. Will check if there is anything else. I dont think i have a front derailleur.

Very good idea. I'm sure I will have a 27.2 mm Kalloy seatpost for you at the end of the month.

Try and get it bead/walnut blasted. It will go alot quicker. Do not use sand as it is too abrasive.

Do u know where i can get this done in Gauteng - i live in Edenvale and work in Florida so anywhere in Gauteng would not be a problem

I don't know names but was looking for some and know there is one in Sebenza in Edenvale and another called Abrasive Blasting and Coatings in Roodepoort = 011 763-6230

You and my dad should swop jobs. He lives in Newlands, next to Florida, and been driving to Edenvale for work for 30 years.

and the silica in sand is supposed to stuff up certain kinds of paintjobbies (the little bits that stays behind)

might be an urban legend, but i'll rather get it bead (or walnut) blasted

Rather take the frame to a good powder coater (KC powder coaters in tulisa park). They can use a chemical stripper as opposed to any kind of blasting. I have a lot of my mx quad's soft ally parts powder coated and they won't blast them.

Okay guys, i checked out the frame last night and removed the few very bent and broken components. On inspecting the frame for cracks i found one on the seat postAngry. Normally i would weld this but it is very close to the seat stay welds and i'm worried longe term as far as making these welds brittle with the weld repair heat. any opinions here?

you can't see in the pic but if i look inside the tube it is clear this guy has had the seat post stuck in aprox. 1" (me wonders how he didn't fall on his ass) because he did a lot of downhill with the bike.

Interestingly the make of the frame is a "CALOI" from Brazil, they seem to be very popular in south America

Aaaah. Will be interested to see if it can be fixed.

Either way will keep parts. If frame is a throwout I have a set of Juicy 5s that I am willing to donate should the next frame be disc compatable.

That frame will never be the same again. Luckily, even a poor weld will not be catastrophic should it fail on the next user.....if, and that's important, he uses a very long seatpost that extends to way beyond the ex crack.

After you've welded it, carefully file and polish any sharp edges in that hole in the frame just below the cut-out. It is quite easy to get a stress riser there. However, a nice long, strong, non-carbon  seatpost will make the bike safe.

Even so, there's nothing wrong with regular inspections though, which should come with every wash in anyway.

Thanx Johan (Once again we bow down in humbleness under the shadow of youe wisdomness)

Okay so i'm going to get the frame prepared next week. Then i will 1st insert a seat tube with seat clamp (this to keep the cracked part of the frame in place while welding)

Can i have some input here as far as colour

What colour ??

I think we should just use one colour and get it powder coated (to keep expenses down)

Are there any Hub logo transfers available??

Get it powder coated in light blue. I can send you the artwork and you can have it cut at any sign shop in any colour as long as it is white.
