Franschhoek Mountain Bike Routes

I am starting this thread to get some interest going regarding the mountain bike routes around Franschhoek.

 

I have been facilitating a team of trail builders during the past 4 months. Work was mostly focused on clearing and repairing old forestry roads, but some new sections and links have also been built. We will launch the trails by the end of January once they are all marked and mapped, but in the mean time you are welcome to contact me to come and ride the routes as planned. This will also probably be the last chance to ride these mountains for free as a permit system will be necessary in future to ensure the sustainability of the project.

This is great news! I have just moved to Franschhoek from somerset west, and was quite upset about leaving all the nice trails there behind. Would love to go and see ur handy work ASAP.

Any plans to build some trails in the area circled below? I built some trails and jumps in that little bit of forest with some mates about 15 years ago, but sure there is absolutely no sign of them there anymore.

I've always thought it would be amazing if you were able to link the Jonkershoek trails to Franschhoek via a nice bit of singletrack along the Berg river. Not sure if it is even possible, but the Strava heat map suggests people have done it.

Anybody did this trail recently. I'm going to franschhoek on the 25th so thought I could do a lekker ride. Is it safe to ride alone? Will it be open on Xmas? Where do I get a permit?

I had the privilege of riding some of the trails with Eitan.  I can assure you it is really awesome trails and while you have the chance.... take him up on his offer.   He is a awesome tour guide.
