IceCreamMan Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 F#{%|>¥ Waited too long to enter and didnt get an entry. If anyone wants to substitute let me know Ironman don't allow subs...your best bet is to contact Sharon at Ironman and put yr name on the waiting list, if they get cancelations you have a chance to get into the event.

Craai Posted March 9, 2016 Posted March 9, 2016 Just received this: I am sorry but entries are now sold out and there is no waiting list. Anyone withdrawing will not be replaced. The only option is through the Charity. Please contact Julia on julia@ironman4thekids.co.za

Bianchi Baby Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Can't seen to find a thread on this one?Who's in?How's your training going?
Dgas Posted March 30, 2016 Posted March 30, 2016 Cycling, no problem 90 km is not a long distance. Running is ok, not too worried. Swimming - can do 1500m in the virgin active pool. Decided to take swimming lessons starting next week.
IceCreamMan Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 I will be doing Durban, great event organized by IM and a relatively gentle course.
shaper Posted March 31, 2016 Author Posted March 31, 2016 Am in for Durbs, was a fun event last year. Hope they do something different with the cycle as the little loop to finish was chaos with bunches. As for training, no swimming at the moment as broke my collar bone in a crash at the Argus (CTCT), but am at least back training with cycling on the wattbike and running on the treadmill. If I get the all clear from the orthopedic surgeon on the 18 April then will start swimming which will be a 6 week layoff with 2 months to get up to speed again.. should be enough time
Bianchi Baby Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Good luck Shaper! My training is ok. Cycling is slowly improving - did 450km this month so im getting thereSwimming is fine - need to get my head around swimming in the sea and then i will nail itRunning - now there is the problem - develped an ITB problem and now i cant run at all until the physio says i can so that may come back to bite me on the day! Oh well - accommodation is booked and im training what more could we ask for hey
fabes Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Morning guys Seems I may have got my hands on an entry (long story) and now need to start making arrangements for the weekend as well as start some training. In terms of accommodation where is the best place to stay, I want to be able to walk from my accommodation to the start and back after the finish?
gurns Posted April 13, 2016 Posted April 13, 2016 Guys and Girls, all those who have entered Durban, what about following each other on Strava, and then we can hopefully be motivated by being part of a group with a common goal? PM me if anyone is keen.. I have set my goal time as 5h30, and I am in the 50 - 54 age group. I live in Eston, KZN, right next door to Virginia Trails Mtb venue, and if anyone feels like a bit of training out in the country, please send me a message. I am a farmer so I am reasonably flexible for time of day. Also, if anyone is really jammed for accommodation, I could possibly help, even though I am 70km from the venue, I will be travelling there to registration, race day and after party. Happy training everyone,
IceCreamMan Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 only 6 weeks and 6 days to go now. Looking forward to this as a final event for the season then to relax a bit. After IMSA I have been restricting training to around 8 hours a week in an effort to recuperate completely and still maintain momentum for Durban. I have had a slight right calf niggle so did not run for 10 days and only started again on Sunday. Was good to run again. Aiming for a sub 6 hour in Durban. 35 minute swim with T1. 2:55 cycle with T2 leaving me with 2:30 for the 21 km run. I have never run the 21km in under 2:30 in a half event so the pressure is on. We wait n see. Its going to be a good one.
fabes Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 I am looking forward to this one. Haven't competed in anything "big" since Ironman 2 years ago. Even though I left myself with just over 8 weeks to train for this event I am enjoying it so far. I joined up with Team Tissink and must say I have enjoyed a structured training program which I have never really done before. I did miss a couple of sessions last week with public holidays and work but didn't miss a run session. This week I have no excuses so hoping for a few big weeks to follow
fabes Posted May 3, 2016 Posted May 3, 2016 In terms of accommodation where is the best place to stay, I want to be able to walk from my accommodation to the start and back after the finish?Anybody?
shaper Posted May 3, 2016 Author Posted May 3, 2016 Am now back swimming and slowly managing to build up distance after breaking my collar bone 7 weeks ago... managed a 2km swim yesterday, although was tired after it... still time to regain fitness. At least in the time not swimming my running has improved Was a fun event last year (6:05hrs)... so also looking to break 6hrs this year and pushing for the 5:30hrs
