I was wondering if anyone can suggest any nice routes in and around the langebaan area for road cycling? I am looking at route 50-150km with any mix of flats or climbing.

I do not do a lot of road cycling but the following routes I've seen from my friends that do more road cycling.

1) WCNP (From LBN to R27 gate to Kraalbaai and back) Basically the Lagoon Challenge, should give you about 80km (Minimum car traffic is an added bonus) (entry to the park is R 45 per person unless you have a wildcard)

2) Then you can also exit Langebaan on the road that hooks up to the R27 next to the 1-Stop, head out to Vredenburg turn left at the first robot as you hit the town head out to Saldanha and then turn left before the BP Garage at the robot and head back to Langebaan.

3) The longer option is to skip the Vredenburg turn off and head out on the R27 to Velddrif and just before you get to Velddrif then take the turn off to Vredenburg (Left) and you will come to the same robot but then you can continue straight on and hook up to the above route.

There are various options to shorten or extend these, I will see if I can't post a couple of map shots from my friends strava accounts that do these for you perhaps.

Great, thanks for the feedback. Would have loved to bring the MTB but needs new drive train after a hard years racing. Understand there are more mtb routes in the area but road bike will have to do.

The WCNP will be the safest option of course as it is a nature reserve.  The other routes should be pretty safe, I have not yet heard of any incidents on these routes in the past.

Sorry for the Hi-jack, any Mtb routes in the area (more specifically Jacobs bay)? +-30 to 40km

Hi I don't ride in Jacobs bay that often and not to familiar with all the route possibilities there.

Here is however a mash-up of all my routes I did do in that area that you can link up.  Jacobs bay being the town in the top left corner ;)

The best is to head out to I think it is called Danger Bay (not sure) but it is the area between Jacobsbay and Saldanha just after the abandoned runway.  There are some dirt roads you can link up.  You can also follow the main gravel road/via Danger bay out of Jacobs bay to Saldanha and link up the reserve at SAS.  Just be mindful that do take you just next to the informal settlement area.  Not my favorite spot to ride by alone.  Never had an issue but just not a fan of it.  Also the spot you can enter the reserve is sometimes riddled with broken bottle peaces

There is also this 18km route I've seen someone I follow on Strava do that takes you to the koppies in Saldanha as well.  I have not yet ridden that route though.

Pitty the SAS Saldanha reserve is now off limits to non SANDF residents until further notice..
