Cannondale Hollowgram non-drive side crank installation and spacers

Just got my brand new 2016 Scalpel 2 and noticed a gap between the BB and the crank arm on the non-drive side. You can clearly see the wave washer which is in the gap.

I was wondering if this is normal? I suspect there are spacers that are missing as it looks like a bit of a crud-catcher. Anybody have any pics of their scalpel or hollowgram installation to compare? Or better yet, a link to the manual online?

There is no mechanical problem, so to speak. I was just curious about the fact that the wave washer doesn't seem to be fully compressed. In some of the hollowgram manuals they make mention of spacers that can be used to compress the washer more. My concern is this little gap filling up with dust and grime and eventually getting stuck in the BB.

Cannondales are awesome bikes, but imo very high maintenance.  I have owned a Flash and was for ever cleaning BB and headset bearings and re-setting the Lefty.  I think they sorted the Lefty out with the new Hybrid Lefty but the rest should keep you busy.

The wave washer doesn't have to be completely compressed but it is preferable for max preload. You can fit a shim or two till you achieve the desired compression.

He asked about the spacers...not a general opinion on Cannondale reliability and maintenance issues :whistling:

He did mention the following though :-

"My concern is this little gap filling up with dust and grime and eventually getting stuck in the BB"

Just letting him know that he has a valid concern.
