muddy conditions = long finger gloves and poooooof no more gripshift problem

I ride with the Specialized BG long fingered gloves. I do have to admit, and I am sure there are riders here who rode that Sabie race, that the mud that day was some of the worst conditions you could ride in. I remember some of the Elite riders commenting on it being the worst ever mud conditions they rode in.

We had to wash our bikes at every river crossing we came across. Spent 1 hour 15 minutes in total washing drivetrain etc during that marathon.

The only time when I`m willing to cut silicone grips is when they are being removed from the bike permanently. Requiring the cutting of silicone for any other reason is like breast alterations - it should never not be done.

That's an LBS problem I fear. I've never heard of a gripshift just failing. I have heard and seen triggers shifters internals fail. ratchet shears or spring breaks. Gripshift wears out over time so it easy to order parts in advance and get them in time to service the unit

Ja fair enough. But the LBS couldn't be bothered looking up part numbers and ordering them....they use 'calculated neglect' to try pressure customers into buying new stuff. Faster easier and more profitable for them. A bit like motor dealerships.

I maintain several bikes for friends. Wish I could just order direct from suppliers, even if I have to pay RRP....

Ya their minimum order is to prevent smaller interlopers from starting up everywhere. If they allowed that everyone would open bike maintenance centers and register as a mechanic to get access to wholesalers
