Reden Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Aluminium or brass for a Marathon/cross country type wheel set?I'm going to order a new wheel set but want to go slightly more reliable. I recon go for the brass as they are more reliable than aluminium. My current wheels have aluminium but the nipples seem to start breaking after a year of riding.They slight weight saving is only for the top riders where it would make a difference.

Letum911 Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 Definitely brass!! Alu has a bad habit of stripping and breaking, especially when things go a bit funny in a turn, off a drop etc! I don't know these but looks like a good idea: Pillar's Taper Grip brass nipples
myveonix Posted January 18, 2016 Posted January 18, 2016 I only use Pillar double butted spokes, Pillar taper grip nipples (black or silver) and spoke head washers (on hub flanges). Have not had any come-backs or wheel failures.
