Advice needed on potential 2013 Scott Spark 640 buy

So I can get a 2013 Scott Spark 640 in mint, virtually unused condition for R7000.

Would appreciate some feedback on the bike from those who have experience with it. Yes its a 26" but that doesn't really bother me, will only be used for trail riding and perhaps the odd XC.

It seems like a good deal on a good bike with good components, but I have zero experience with Scott so would like to hear what you guys think.

Thanks!

If you happy with a 26 and why not everybody was for years until they they stirred the pot.

I'm a Scot fan 3 out of 7 bikes I've owned were Scott.

Presently ride a Scott genius custom 29er

R7000 is about the going price for a pre owned full sus 26"

For a while there were some crazy deals guys selling really expensive 26" full sus bikes for around a quarter of the price the paid.

So you are on the mark if you say its as new...the mix of components is good ,

get it use it for a year and if you want to sell it you'll probably get around R5000.

A small loss looking at the guys that drop 30k on a bike and loose about 7k when they sell it after a years riding.

The 29er Sparks from this era had big problems with chain stays cracking left right and centre. There are many threads about this on the Hub.

I haven't heard of the 26ers cracking, but then again, not many of them were sold.

Just bear this in mind as you won't have a warranty.

Perhaps follow up with Scott first to ensure they have stock of the rear triangles. You don't want to buy it and not be able to fix it if it does crack

Thanks for that. I didn't have time for much research, had to jump on it or lose it. So I jumped...

Couldn't find any justified complaints anywhere about the 26" frames failing so hoping it was only the 29ers.

They cracked because the bearings behind the BB became siezed or rough, putting strain on the chainstay as the suspension cycled.

Service, clean and replace bearings before they become rough and you should be fine.
