Looking for a BIG Helmet (MTB/Commuting)

Hope this has not been covered.

 

I'm having a really hard time finding a helmet that fits. I currently have a Giro Skyline up to 61cm the sticker says, adjusted up to the max, but still too small for the noggin. I can bear it for periods, but it becomes painful after a while. To top that, if I'm going to start wearing something for the sweat, like a Halo, it will definitely not fit at all.

 

Who sells helmets for us well-endowed folk?

 

I thought about modifying the inside, but decided against it, for fear of compromising the integrity.

did you measure the circumference of your pip?

you should be an extra large then they usually go from 61-63cm

 

speak to your lbs about options.

I remember they had to order me a beret back in the SADF days...

Giro do :

Universal fit (budget line helmets) (like the skyline)

Adult 54 - 61

or Xlarge 58 - 65 (not easy to find in SA)

 

if you buy one of their more expensive helmets(Xar, Feature,Hex ) with Super fit

you get Large 59 - 63

or Xlarge 61 - 65

 

most other brands are the same

I have almost the same issue, but mine comes not in the size as much as shape, I have tried MANY helmets and found some fit and some don’t, even if they are same size L in my case

My problem is my head seems to be wider than the norm, taking into account the proportions. Over the years I have discovered that the different brands makes different shapes, try specialized, met, BBB, lazer or limar, these I know are “wider” fit, Giro and bell not so much

I have a large head and discovered much to my delight that our lbs had some merida helmets on sale. The xl is positively huge! I have never seen them again so I am not sure if they are still available but if you can find one i am sure it will fit. The bonus is it was only around R450

Hoping to put some new juice in this thread as I am looking for an extra large (61cm to the moon) helmet as well. I've always had a firm head and for this reason I've never bothered to look into helmets while I was in The Netherlands. Having responsibilities and such now, my beautiful Minister of Safety wants me to get a helmet. 

Are there any shops out there in Cape Town who stock XL helmets to keep my processor safe? Where did you find your luck, Halfdoesyn? Did you get the SANDF to make you one?

Bought the Kask at a LBS. You can find them at http://www.sportsworld.co.za/

 

When I was there, it was still the SADF. Only added the "N" in '94, when things changed.
