Still luvin' them but I gotta beef.....at no-one in particular....however....

1. Greenbelt NikNak Monster....been away a while but every time I ride, I see these between Bellevue Ave and the trailhead.....

2. Straight-liners (as apposed to flat-earthers) Between Monterey and Bel Ombre, a small tree has been cut down, almost halfway down the trail...no judgement but it seems strange that it's at a critical turn at the bottom of rooty section, where you have to take care not to clip it as you come down the section and have to turn right. It was there yesterday! And there plenty of other trees if you looking for firewood...why that one??

This section has also suffered from re-routing to straighten out the line just above said ex-tree......

The trail in this area is becoming wider and wider...could it be from natural traffic increase?

Anyway, that's my beef, and a plea to users not to abuse the trails......

Oh and watch out for the NikNak Monster...one of the reasons I don't ride there at night!!

Edit: Just occurred to me....The missing tree may have been at special request of the trail organizers...if so, ignore this rant!

Regarding the Nik Nak monster, you'll spot him in a crowd with his tell-tale orange index finger and thumb. Should help you on your hunt.

Regarding the tree, is it posing any danger?

And not having ridden the ironed out section/ reroute, would you say it's any better than before? I'm still wondering why the work was done and at such expense..

Shot Deon....will look out for those traits...wonder if his fingers glow in the dark??

RE the tree, no it was not a danger/obstacle, it was next to the trail, just like all the other trees, but if you came down that section too fast or you don't have the necessary experience, you could clip it....if that's the case then are all the trees lining the trail going to get cut down?

The re-route is plain and simple dumbing down the trail...it by-passes a left-right combo which is slightly off-camber where again, you have to slow down and be careful...I have been watching it develop for sometime and there were efforts to prevent it happening by closing off the short-cut but now its a full blown path. The original still exists but it seems the masses are now just going straight and by passing the challenging section.

Give me a shout if you want to ride, the upper Newlands forest section has some challenging hill climbs!!!

Would dig to go for a spin... if you still in town from the 24th we'll make a plan. Newlands K'bosch is the valley of a thousand hills to me in my latest unfit and fat state! You'll need to wait for me :D

I find it quite ironic that the issue of speed/walker conflict should be encouraged with the removal of off camber and tight switches opting instead for straight paths. Joke! Just wait for the berms mentioned on that FB post showcasing the changes. Features like these on shared trails, sure!

Mind you, the ongoing case some walkers have with the Forum on rider speed and control is a strong one, changes like these are the exact opposite of what we need.
