Looking at getting a road bike.

I'm looking at purchasing a 2nd hand Specialized Allez Elite...The owner says it's an 07 but I seem to think that it may be a bit older as it has a sticker on it, (pedal side) that reads "9 Speed" with visible (what I think is) surface rust on the chain etc.
He's asking R3800 including Northwave road shoes. 

 

Is this a good price?

Anything with the name Specialized carries a premium. It's difficult to.comment on value as we don't know the condition or specs. Assuming all is good, I would say the price is good, even with the most entry level of parts.

 

Rust on a chain means it hasn't been ridden much. That's a good thing and surface rust on a chain is no big deal. Also 9 speed doesn't make it old. Shimano still makes 9 speed. Back in 07, Tiagra was also still 9 speed.

According to this http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/BikeSpecs.aspx?year=2007&brand=Specialized&model=Allez+Elite+Double it did come out standard with Shimano Tiagra 9-speed, so no worries there. Is that the only reason you thought it's older?

Sounds like a reasonable deal. Even if it's overvalued by 10%, that's "only" R380
