Quite right and if it weren't for Shimano Campy would still be running 5 speed friction shifters on the down tube...

 

And they'd STILL have that horrible square shank BB axle.

 

And centre pull delta brakes.

 

And chain rings with no up and down shift lugs.

 

And unsealed brake and gear cables.

 

And chains without bevelled edges.

 

And ball and racer style bearings.

 

Quite the pinnacle of invention and innovation those campy peeps...

 

Shimano dragged bicycle parts out of the dark ages!

Yes my dear friend and the real educated Shimano people are eternally gratefull to kempekkenoglia for that. The folks at Shimano went and improved the designs of Uncle Tulio Kempekker and we have the superior groupsets now. Hell I even know of die hard Shimano haters who recently contemplated using Shimano MTB groupset in his new MTB. Why ....... because kempekker's only foray into MTB was also a total flop and untill now they do not respect their users enough to develop their own brand of dependable MTB groupsets.

Bike no 2 - Campy only

Bike no 3 - Shimano only

 

Prefer the Campy, clunk-clunk sounds so reassuring

Then again my wife prefers the Shimano (I better keep quiet now)
