Sram Shimano Compatibility

I have taken over my son's old MTB. The bike was equipped with Sram x5 10spd shifter and a X7 rear derailleur. The derailleur is not healthy anymore so I decided to fit my Shimano components of my old bike to my "new" bike. Removed the rear S-ram cluster, chain and derialleur and fitted my shimano 10spd casette, shimano xt clutch derailleur and the chain. These components are fairly new fitted about 6 months ago. The front chainring is already a NW.

My problem is that I can not select gear one or two when shifting up. All other gears are fine and shifting is no problem whether up or down.

My question is the Sram x5 shifter compatible at all with the shimano clutch derailleur?

no. Sram shifter needs to go with sram derailleur, and the same is true for shimano stuff. The rest (chainrings, cranks, cassettes, chains, front derailleurs) you can mix and match.

Hi-jack On . I have been running an old SLX shifter , which is now past its sell-by-date . Can I upgrade it with a Zee shifter running an XT rear derailleur (10 speed) ? . Hi-Jack OFF

Ive set up an XT der to work with an X9 10spd shifter. I also noticed that the last 2 gears would not index nicely, so I figured if I changed the cable routing to pull more on the last bit, then it should work. So when clamping the cable, do not route it through the groove, instead take it around the small tab and tighten it. This should give you the extra pull for the last 2 gears and s what worked for me.
