brumby Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Jakes and I are very similar in height and thus the recommendation of a Toughroad. It,s an all rounder - mtb, city bike, touring bike, commuter, road bike - all in one package. It,s also designed to take additional weight with the one model kitted out with carriers mounted to the front fork and rear of the bike for carrying loads.Mid range Shimano components and Giant wheelset are rock solid. At 135kg's I'd rather have the Toughroads carbon fork than a suspension fork.
cpelser Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 Hi Jakes03. My 2014 large Sola1 is up for sale. 90% road riding and in awesome condition. Very low kilos covered. Let me know if you're interested. Asking R14 500.Crazy... Sola1 comes with ZTR Crest wheels with a maximum rider weight limit of 86kg..Really poor advice. Jakes03 - Make sure you get a proper wheelset at that weight. I was 112kg when I started and I quickly rode my first 29er wheelset to be buckled.I then bought an expensive set of ZTR Flow Ex wheels and now I'm very happy. Very few manufacturers put proper wheelsets on standard <R20k bikes, but those you can trust include:GiantSpecialized RovalTrek's BontragerMost other brands use rebranded cheap rims that won't be strong enough for you long term.

Quite right Jakes03, the Crests won't work for you. Having said that, I'm way over the weight limit of the Crests, and I don't have issues.... I think it comes down to the type of usage. Cpelser , what rims in Jakes03 budget will accommodate his 135 kgs??? According to manufacturer's weight limits?? Just wondering...

Just wondering...At 104kgs I also purchased Crests from someone of a similar weight and I trashed them after 1 ride on the Table Mountain steps down from the Blockhouse. (They had Hope Evo Pro 2 hubs and I was aware that I could just be buying the wheels for the hubs. They now have Flow rims.) I would be cautious selling them to anyone above the recommended weight.
