Hi Gerald, So what does he say?

Why is it so difficult to get a proper race going in Pta?

I can't think it's due to a lack of support from riders, perhaps lack of support from city council?

you can make a nice scenery route including Voortrekker Monument, Union Buildings, Fort Klapperkop, Fort Loftus and don't forget Hotel 224. And trust me it will be tough as well.

I'm sure if we can get Joburg close down for a day, we can do the same in Pta.

perhaps the problem is the organisers..... I can see a Macsteel Capital Classic go down very well (lol)

Do you want the Nigerians to try and sell us some "pro" supplements?

All i can say. Its not confirmed.

94.7 numbers, charity and coverage did not come overnight and did not start out to race on the highways and cbd.

I said I know someone, not that I'll ask him why there aren't any Pretoria races... [emoji6]

That said, running an event within a rural area is not easy, never mind the urban areas.

Perhaps the Boksburg folk are more accommodating compared to the folk north of the Jukskei.

Yes, and the greed of the city council.

Wonder if we have a new mayor weather this could not help with getting a event sorted.  Maybe get the EFF vote to help on that one.

That Boschkop/Graham Road circuit is already so popular with cyclists, they could just find an extra 40km, put up start and finish banners and they'd have a race.

All the big races, CCT, 94,7, Amashova, etc, etc, the local government (municipalities) got involved.  But Tshwane on the other hand only got their fingers up the arses thinking it is the cookie jar.

The potential is there.  It must just be grabbed.  There are enough support for the idea.  That is why I say maybe now that the local politics has changed it is a good idea to relook the options.

Sorry - couldn't resist, could've been worse - coffee, laptop keyboard.

The effort required to get a race approved, setup and so much more requires more than just putting a start/finish banner up.

No doubt. All I'm saying is that the route is practically already in place and the roads are quiet and I cant imagine there would be too much objection to them being partially closed off.

How many cycle clubs in the area?

Perhaps a club wants to get onboard and organise it, like my club has done.

Give up one weekend (and a fair number of evenings through the year) to give a few thousand cyclists some joy.

There are quiet a few clubs riding this route. Velo, Cycle Lab, Concept Cyclery and there are at least 1 other larger group that I've saw on this route.
