Subject need to be changed. This is a touring bike, not a CX bike

Yes, its seems jealousy does make one nasty.

BIG thumbs up

I have seen some of Davids work up close and it is fantastic. I once bumped into him on Table Mountain and commented on the nice CX Mercer he was riding, not at all aware that he was the builder himself. Found him to be very unassuming.

Looking forward to the next installment!

Great read! I am sure that you will love your Mercer bike!

My turn is coming up soon and I cannot wait!!!

All the best and looking forward to hearing much much more about the build and experience.

(PS: that frame looks familiar... if it was still in Dave's workshop during Feb I might have fondled it a little...)

Thanks for the comments, much appreciated!

@Rouxtjie...then you know about the packaging...not having ridden this version yet, I can only hope for the best.

@Eddy...it's all about perspective, really not that extreme

@Rock...the real title is CX tourer, yeah. I'm sure if I slap some 38 or 42 CX tires on, loose the rack and swap the crank to compact it'll be ripping the (mild) trails

@DJR...he's a super guy, it's like he is oblivious of what he is creating and how unvanilla it is

@Yusran...which one is yours? Mine is in the paint shop as we speak, so I'm counting the hours, literally.

Indeed, not extreme at all.

Here is one of my four Brooks saddles, albeit that two of them are Cambiums....

Mine is still in the design phase, so I'm still counting weeks and days.

I love those HY/RD brakes by the way, planning to get some myself. I'm sure they must perform nicely when compared to the BB7's.

We abosolutely MUST see your bike when it comes back from painting! Before you build it up.

Out of interests sake, what fork will you be using? (Apologies if I missed it in your write up, 99% sure I haven't) Or is this a secret to behold as well?

Tick...tock...tick...tock...

Seems like painting is holding things up. Now only expected to be completed end of next week, with shipping arrangements giving me an "in-your-sweating-hands-date" of the 7th of May.

What else to do but start with another build?

Please move along now...you're holding up a tandem build ;)

Would love to see it Johan. Mountain tandem? Or Road? I guess something in between! Yes, that MUST be it! :)

Mostly because I can't wait to get my hands on this beast...and because some pictures have leaked on Twitter...

Here he is post-paintshop:

I'm itching for the build, of course, and hope to get my sweaty paws on it on Saturday...

That is absolutely gorgeous!!!

Congratulations!

I've received and approved of Dave's working drawings for my own frame so I'm itching to get on the go aswell.

Again, congratulations! I love the colour, something I have been struggling to decide on. How/when did you choose your color scheme in the process?
