Bit more than the others @ R5299.

But then he really enjoys his cycling and its cheaper than him doing Karate or one of the other paid sports for 2 years.  (at least that's how I justify it).

I have also seen the difference between his bike and his friends cheaper bikes (those bought in Sportsmans) and there is a big difference.  When they swop, you can see the improvement of the friends.

I agree. If they have a decent bike they will enjoy it so much more.

Its also safer as the better bikes just seem a lot more balanced.

Its scary riding behind his friends on the Makro specials, the bikes just can't go in a straight line.

so decided to go for an extra small 27.5". The 24" just did not have enough adjustment for future growth. Would have been too small within a year.

Also managed to sell the old 20 inch for R100 less than I paid for it new.

found a Silverback Slade at Olympic for R6500 (last one they had). 27.5 inch extra small frame. Should last him at least 3 years.

.Only saw this thread now and thought I could refer you to my LBS.

They have some really good prices on a big range of Avalanche and Axis bikes from 16" to 26" and some entry level 27.5" options.

Glad you found the right bike for you and youre wallet.????

I have just been through the excersize.

I have twin 8 year old boys.

They were on 20" Titan Hades and I was pretty happy with the abuse the bikes took.

Looked around and tried the XS 26" thing, but the bike was just too big.

My kids ride the spur series and the odd 10km mtb event and I didn't want a bike they couldn't manage.

So I ended up getting them the Titan Hades 24" (V brake spec) bike. Got them for R3500.00 each which I felt was reasonable for the kind of bike.

Titan also do what they call a 24 9er. http://www.titanracingbikes.com/hades_249r.html

basically a 24" frame with 26" wheels. Also something you could look into.

I know bikes are pricey, but I'm a firm believer in riding the right size bike.

Hope these will last at least 2 years. :)

Hi there

Please can you advise me if the cassette on the bike you got is screw on or the usual type?

Many thanks
