Kad-Guy Posted April 17, 2016 Posted April 17, 2016 Hey lads, So this weekend I decided to commence the resurrection operation on my (as far as i know) 1980-something bmx which i bought 10 years back in Cape Town. It came with some pretty kick ass components, all of which hail from the great Japan.
Kad-Guy Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 Let the stripping begin! Years and years of the past being ripped off! Does anybody recognise the original paintwork on this bike? looks like some kinda red. I can make out an'A'but thats about it... This serial remains an enigma to me
Kad-Guy Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 Come on sandpaper!! Do you worst!!!! Enough for one day. The original frame colour may be seen on the fork here...
Kad-Guy Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 So after much sweat and reciprocating motions of the hand (...), Ive finally sanded it down to what I believe is suitable enough to be sent away to be sprayed.herein lies ze problem though. I dont know what the original colour of this bike was, so i wont be able to restore it to its original colour. Any suggestions on what I should go for? Sugesstions please to inlcude images. Anybody know of loyal spray painters in Cape Town areas (who wont take forever and steal parts)? Thanks!!
Kad-Guy Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 I was thinking of spraying it a blue much like this (thanks for the image Eric Cartman) since I've got some gold parts too that will mesh well with this blue.
Kad-Guy Posted April 17, 2016 Author Posted April 17, 2016 Thanks Gents! @the nerd, does he go by the name BogusOne?
Kad-Guy Posted April 19, 2016 Author Posted April 19, 2016 So after much stressful contemplation, Ive reached the following conclusion: I AM HORRIBLE AT PICKING COLOURS! I need any input from forum members as to what colour to go for. Narrowed it down to either blue or red. Here are the parts which will be assembled on the bike: -Gold/ silver crank-Silver flywheel-Black rims-Gold hubs-Gold stem lock nut-Silver stem-Chrome bars (not the current bars in the image)-Gold seat clam-Chrome Seat post ...and the prospective colours... Team Blue: Team Red: Thanks for any assistance!
FrequentFaller Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 My goes for the team blue or the last red one ???????? (in fact, double vote for the latter)
Eric Cartman Posted April 20, 2016 Posted April 20, 2016 Its good to see more Old School BMX on the Bike Hub
Kad-Guy Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 Its good to see more Old School BMX on the Bike Hub It truly is. In other news, I nearly got myself killed yesterday in Goodwood. Was driving and saw a chrome Looptail goose in immaculate condition cycling towards the train station. Parked my car at the nearest open spot and made a dash towards him... Needless to say I was too late lol. I fell victim to my inner BMX desires, couldnt control it.
