Saudi Arabia - Group Rides

Hi All

 

I will be in Riyadh for 3 months and will be taking my bike with to practice, do anyone know of groups cycling in Riyadh, or someone I can get in contact with?

 

I need to continue my tri training, can not afford a 3 month "lay-off"

According to their calendar, they have a long list of amateur to professional events lined up. Enjoy the kebabs.

Not sure if you checked ambient temps for the next 3 mths....42 to 45 degrees C....Camelbac and 2 x water bottles plus escort with drip and Rehidrat. 

 

Edit..I'm assuming you mean you will be there for the next 3 months....if you that keen, take your bike, its not too bad right now but temps are climbing quickly every day.....join a group as p-skollie says below...if the roads (condition and users) are anything as bad as the area in the East that I frequent, then you will need mates, eyes in the back of your head and huge knaaters to ride....good luck.

Its crazy hot there this time of year. Its a dry and sticky heat too. 

Jeddah temps were around 30 Celsius end of last year.

Which is technically their winter.

 

Also bear in mind that assuming you're leaving soon. You'll be there during Ramadaan. Which means that life is pretty laid back for a month and I doubt much organised riding will happen during this period.

Not sure about Saudi, but in the UAE they do a lot of night riding due to the heat. 

 

I'm gonna be moving to Al Ain in the UAE from July so I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. First thing on my mind was how am I gonna cycle in that heat.

 

I've pretty much gotten it in my head that I will be making use of an indoor trainer while I'm there.

 Hi Perry, did you actually ride while you were in Riyadh? 

 

Do you think its better to take a MTB or Road bike?  Any info would help as might be heading there for a while.  Thanks !

Bub, as Cape Diver has pointed out - loads of good riding in UAE. For MTB, see fb sites for MTB Fridays and Hot Cogs. Best thing is to start early (like 05h30) and finish by 08h30. Never take too little water.
