The Cape 10000, SA's first 1000km Audax event, is happening at the moment. It runs from Somerset West to Hartenbos and back. Only four riders out of the nine who started remain.

Wimpie Van Der Merwe and Chris Van Zyl are cruising and are almost back in Barrydale, 760km in.

 

Michelle Gahan is almost back in Calitzdorp, 621km in.

 

Salim Skaikjee left Oudtshoorn, 585km in, recently.

 

They have all been riding for 43 hours.

The lonely battle of the randonneur.- our 2 survivors are battling headwinds and rain as they are now on their way between Robertson and Nuy. Once they turn and head back to Villiersdorp. they should at least have the wind in their backs. Bon courage Wimpie and Chris!

He crashed on CTCT, broke his collarbone. So, sitting this one out.

Wimpie Van Der Merwe and Chris Van Zyl just completed the inaugural Cape 1000. 1012km, 67 hours, 15.1 km/h. They were the only finishers.

 

A truly astonishing achievement! Congratulations to you both.
