Q- Factor

It's the distance between cranks - measured from the outside to outside where the pedal screws in. So in other words will affect how far your feet are apart.

Quite important if you want to ensure you pedal squarely on the pedals rather than push sideways. I had it adjusted and a lot of my problems went away. Adjust it with shims/spacers behind pedals. It was a revelation.

Aah now that makes sense. So in other words, every single person who is selling cranks that have obviously been scuffed into a coma by their shoes, needs to check their QF. One can only wonder how buggered their shoes must be. I can only shake my head.. Almost as bad as bar ends on riser bars.... Friday topic, I suppose.

I used to get intense pain in the outside of my feet after a long ride. The reason was because the Q Factor was too narrow and the platform I was pushing on was too small. Literally some small 1 mm shims behind the pedals plus using road pedals for road (nor Cranks) made all the difference. My foot was rolling to the side so it was pushing all the force through the side of my feet.

That is Q Factor. Not well understood or used properly, but makes a hell of a difference if it's wrong
