Bleeding Blocks for Shimano

Heel Drop

I used wooden blocks cut to size on previous generation xtr brakes.

What size is that, specifically the thickness? Or do you just make it the same thickness as 2 new brake pads?

Remove your pads, push the pistons all the way in flush with the caliper and measure the distance between them. With the pistons flush with the caliper, the block should just slip in easily. Hold it in place with tape/cable tie if needed

To make them like a boss you also drill a hole so you can fit the bleed block with the pad retaining bolt/split pin, then no issues with the DIY bleed block falling out half way through a bleed.

Yellow block is 10mm thick, about 12 pieces of old C/Card, Gym Card, drivers license etc super-glued together.

I have read elsewhere that a 10mm allen key works, but this is not recommended, the pistons are ceramic and can be easily damaged by metal that does not cover the entire surface.

If you have old pads, then use those with smaller spacers between them to get to the 10mm.
