Hi guys,

Please Help!!

Sorry, this answer(s) may be somewhere on the BikeHub, but I can't find it.....

I am running a black 2x10spd Shimano FCM785 crank on my bike. Bolt Circle is 104mm. Can I use the crank arms to make it 1x11spd?

Meaning.....will it work if I removed the current two 10spd chainrings and fitted (for example) a 32t 11 spd chainring with a 104mm bolt circle?  Then off course meaning changing the rest of my drive train as well to 11spd, i.e. chain, rear derailleur and shifter and cassette.  And last question.....does 11 spd cassette fit automatically on 10 spd freebody??....currently running Hope Pro2 EVO hubs (10spd).

Yes, you can. I'm doing the same with my 2x10 SLX cranks on my 1x system.

You'll need to put  acouple of spacers between the crank spider and the chainring to optimize the chainline though.

Thx!

YES YOU CAN AND I ALSO USED MY SLX CRANK WITH A 30T OVAL CHAIN RING.

IN THE END I REMOVED THE OVAL AND RE-INSTALLED MY FD AND OLD CHAIN RINGS AND WENT 2X11 AS THE HILLS WERE TOO HARD FOR ME :-)

And last question.....does 11 spd cassette fit automatically on 10 spd freebody??....currently running Hope Pro2 EVO hubs (10spd).

It depends.... - it depends on which cassette you use and which freehub you have - if you use a shimano 11sp (40/11 or 42/11) cassette, then yes it fits on the standard 10 speed freehub - if you use a SRAM 42/10 cassette, then you need to buy the XD freehub driver for your hope hubs, and then it will fit.

Just remember - going shimano means losing a fair amount of gear range - this may or may not be important to you, but might be worth playing with a gear ratio calculator to see the difference to your existing ratios - I use Sheldon Brown's one.

Speed at 90rpm means something more to me than the other measurements.... but should give you some idea on what to expect compared to your existing setup.

Hi Myles

Running the same set up as you with 1 x 11 with a 32 NW on a SLX spider at the front. How many spacers did you put?
