What about b-tension, gyide pulley might be too close causing issue on that sprocket. Try adjust b-tension screw half a turn in. If no change turn it back to where it was then at least you know it's not that.

Okay so I finally got to sort it out . I stripped the cassette on Friday night and (under a magnifying glass) I saw a very very small "bur" on one of the angled teeth on the 13 tooth sprocket , I took my Leatherman diamond edge file and filed it away . Problem gone . Inspecting it once assembled I could see that the "bur" would randomly touch/hook the outer plate of the chain . Not every revolution of the crank would result in the burred tooth aligning with the outer link , sometimes it would align with an inner link and wouldnt make contact . Bike is now beautifully quiet

Hi, I have the same problem on my Shimano Deore XT 2 x 11 drive train. I've done the following with no success. The MTB had this problem from brand new. It is a problem on the Deore, SLX and Deore XT variants also.

Upgraded the following to get rid of the clicking noise:

  • shifter from Deore to Deore XT
  • cassette from SLX to Deore XT
  • chain from KMC to Deore XT
  • changed cables and outer housing
  • changed Deore XT chain rings from 24/34 to 26/36

I still have this clicking issue. If I lube the chain it stops for a few kilometers and starts again. Avoiding that gear completely now!

Going to try BDF's fix!
